The M.2 SSD would certainly give you a cleaner look, as it doesn't require cables.

In regards to performance, I think you would be best to look at benchmarks. :)

well after some further research, the M.2 seems to be able to support upto 10Gb/s were as Sata atm is 6Gb/s so ill probably go the M.2 option

I might be wrong, but that M.2 won't support 10Gb/s, I think there are two versions.

M.2 SATA - SATA 6Gb/s version (basically M.2 form factor versions of the bigger versions?) such as the Samsung you linked to.

and

M.2 PCI-E - PCI-E rated, so bypassing SATA and using the PCI-E bus directly, such as this

I could be way off though with this, but reading on Wiki :

The M.2 specification provides four PCI Express lanes and one SATA 3.0 6 Gbit/s port, exposed through the same connector.

So sounds like you can buy two different types of M.2 SSDs, one that uses normal SATA 6Gb/s or a PCI-E based one. Naturally, PCI-E based ones are much more expensive.

well the MoBo ill be getting is the new

Z97 Asus ROG Maximus VII Formula
Intel® Z97 Express chipset with M.2 (SATA/PCIe x2) support

So Supports Old and New

M.2 SATA SSDs

M.2 SATA SSDs perform up to SATA III speeds (6Gbit/s); the same as other SATA-based SSDs.

M.2 PCI-Express SSDs

While M.2 PCI-Express uses the same PCI-Express protocol as SATA Express, it drops the ‘SATA’ namesake to avoid confusion. M.2 PCI-Express is set to be the interface of choice for 2014 PC DIY enthusiasts, with its small form factor and 10Gbit/s performance potential (in the first generation).

Ah I got confused, I thought you were saying the Samsung M.2 SSD you linked to would do 10Gb/s (PCI-E), but yeah the mobo supports M.2 PCI-E, just that the Samsung M.2 is only M.2 SATA

yeah sorry for the confusion.

just wish there was some M.2 SSDs (good quality like the Samsung Evo) that support the 10gb/s

Same! I went a bit overkill on my case, Fractal Midi, and I could get away with an MATX case/board I reckon in the future if I used a 500Gb M.2 SSD, I don't use optical drives and the only other component would be my graphics card :)

What you've linked isn't M2 at all. It's mSATA, which is entirely different. M2 is the new standard that basically piggybacks off PCIe hence how it can hit huge speeds. mSATA is just a version of SATA that doesn't have a cable, it has a slot instead but is still limited to SATA speeds.

From what i've seen there are very few M2 drives floating around in the wild.

Note: mSATA will NOT fit in an M2 slot.

[Edit] Ignore the comment about availability. OcUK stock a few actually. Just remember that mSATA and M2 are not cross-compatible. Make sure of what your board has and get that.

[Edit2] Most of their M2 drives are still SATA 6Gb limited. There's a nice Plextor M6M drive though that claims 770/625 which is quite nippy.
