780 Classy or 290x Vapor X?

I actually tried it at 1.35v but it got a bit hot lol
Umm around 1240Mhz I think with max fan. Maybe I could have got more if I water cooled, idk.

That's poor! Worst I've ever seen from a Classy. Both mine will do 1350+ and 1400 on there own at 1.275v. The plus side is now you don't have to flash them for the extra voltage you can just use PrecisionX.

Use a bench that doesn't heavily favour Nvidia cards.
And are you sure you were 2000 off? :p

Yep 1721 on the OCUK Heaven thread, I got 1497 on my Tri -X at 1200/1400. Nowhere near at 1497. I suppose I shouldn't care for synthetics, the proof will be in the gaming when my 1440p arrives tomorrow, back to level pegging then.

Who plays synthetics all day? Play some games man! :)

I know I shouldn't care but I do get that niggly feeling I've gone backwards here :(

290 Tri X is a great card and is up there with any 780 performance wise and has more memory to boot. It's also one of the best 290 cards going. I'm sure there is the odd golden 780 that is faster, but who runs their card at 1450 Mhz @1.3v balls to the wall 24/7 for what, a few extra fps? Relax and enjoy i say.

Rule of thumb pecking order

780TI>290X>Titan>290>780

That can vary a bit depending on how much voltage one is willing to push through their cards and how well the silicon in questions overclocks but as he (the_fogo) says they were even or the 290 was faster in games.

EDIT

The_fogo's advice is probably golden he's owned a 780 classy and a pcs 290 and neither were golden clockers.

Yeah i'm sure I'll be happy when I actually fire up some games. The ironic thing is in all my moaning is that I rarely play modern cutting edge tech games lol.
Side note, if I go Cf can I use any 290? I presume they would just run the speed of the slowest if they had different clocks?

Yes you can use any 290 or 780 if you go Crossfire or SLI. You can also Crossfire a 290X with any 290. :)

290 performance means nothing if they don't work! :D

So many threads with horror stories about them now with all the black screens and lines across the screen and so on.

I don't know... maybe I could get another Vapor and it work perfectly this time. On the other hand I could always use the step up program from the Classy within the 90 days if something better comes out or for a 780ti later.

Well the Vapor 290x is same exact price as the Classy where I'll be buying from. So not really spending more.

I would be more than happy to get another Vapor if I knew it would actually work lol. I just don't know if its worth chancing it. Seems the odds are not in my favor that route. :D

Plus the high overclocking you can get from a Classy sounds nice.

No, just get the Classy, or any other Nvidia card.

Probably for the best in this case. :)
