Shellfire 'kills 15 in Gaza school'

At least 15 people have been killed and more than 200 injured when a UN-run school used as a shelter in Gaza was shelled, the Gaza health ministry says.

Hundreds of Palestinians were in the school in Beit Hanoun, fleeing heavy fighting in the area.

It is the fourth time that a UN facility has been hit in Israel's offensive against Hamas militants.

So Hamas are storing weapons in UN facilities too now...?

Unfortunately yes.

(I went for the Guardian to avoid accusations of anti-Palestinian bias but plenty of other sites are carrying similar stories).

Fair enough :p

Though using a vacant building (as in that article) can hardly be described as using a human shield.

And since the report describes the incident as the first of its kind, it's hardly justification to then target any UN facility, especially ones currently being used by civilians. Which, since it is being used, and one would presume with UN personnel in it, Hamas would find it much harder to store rockets in.

US says no, UK Abstains over upholding international law in Gaza.

A sad day for humanity.

because 80% of the conservatives are members of "friends of israel"
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...he-heart-of-our-relationship-with-Israel.html

The warmth forged 107 years ago is today sustained by the Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI). Some 80 per cent of all Tory MPs are members, including most Cabinet ministers. No other lobbying organisation – and certainly not one that acts in the interests of a foreign country – carries as much weight at Westminster. Every year, it takes a significant number of parliamentarians to Israel. Meanwhile, its sponsors play an important role in financing both the Tories nationally, and MPs at the local level.

There is no doubt that the CFI has exercised a powerful influence over policy. The Conservative politician and historian Robert Rhodes James, writing in the Jerusalem Post in 1995, called it “the largest organisation in Western Europe dedicated to the cause of the people of Israel”. Its power has not waned since. On Tuesday, it hosted approximately 100 Tory MPs, including six Cabinet ministers, and a further 40 peers, at a lunch in central London. The speaker was David Cameron, who pronounced himself a “passionate friend” of Israel, making clear (as he has done in the past) that nothing could break that friendship.

It all seems a bit corrupt to me

How can anyone support the current Israeli actions? They just killed a bunch of innocent civilians taking shelter in a UN school and injured 200 others in the same attack. :(

They are doing things like this every day. And still 75%+ of the people they are killing are innocent civilians. No wonder the UN is investigating them for war crimes.

Summary of today:

• At least 15 people were killed and many wounded when Israeli tank shells reportedly struck a compound housing a UN shelter hosting hundreds of displaced Gazans. It was the fourth time a UN facility had been hit in the fighting.

• The Israeli military said "rockets launched from Gaza" landed in Beit Hanoun on Thursday afternoon.

• The latest figures from the Palestinian health ministry said 771 people had died in Gaza and 4,750 had been injured, with at least 76 killed today. More than 140,000 Gazans are displaced, according to the UN.

• Six members of the same family and an 18-month-old infant boy were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit the Jebaliya refugee camp in the early morning hours, according to Gaza police and health officials.

• An airstrike on a home in the southern Gaza town of Abassan, near Khan Yunis in the south, killed five members of another family, the ministry said.

• The Israeli military said that 13 rockets had been fired out of Gaza Thursday and hit Israeli territory and seven additional rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome system.

Because it was UNWRA who found the missiles in one of their schools a few days back and who promptly left the area, leading to accusations they had given missiles to Hamas. Now they want them to go back and meet a bunch of 'spies' who will promptly tell them it was all an Israeli idea? Hokay. I think they got bigger things to be worried about as three of their people have just been killed, without sending another bunch in to hear from some poor suckers 'confessing'.

That is not exactly what you said. You said it is hard to feel sympathy for Israel when the kill radio was 20:1 implying you would only feel sympathetic if more Israelis died to "improve" the kill ratio.

What you and the others are missing is it is precisely because of the Jewish history of suffering and being slaughtered when they were weaker that they are now more mindful of never being in a similar position again and being beholden to some "host" nation for protection.

Why, with their sad history, should they be held to some higher moral standard than some other nations? Just because they have been the punching bag for any dictator or seen as the cause of any natural, economic, or political disasters does not mean they have to continue to roll over.

They now have a homeland that they have turned from little better than desert scrub land into an oasis - a minor miracle - where they produce significantly more agriculturally and economically supporting more people and use less natural resources. They have used this home grown technology for the benefit of the world and their immediate neighbours like Jordan.

They should be applauded not condemned.

ah, the typical Jewish were persecuted in the past argument, so now its ok if they blow the ever loving crap out of another set of people and anyone who dares say this is wrong is a holocaust denying anti Semite..............

Possibly when sufficient Israeli soldiers are killed?

Problem is, when they're just levelling everything with artillery Stalingrad-style, that may take some time. :(

When does it end? My gut feeling is "never". The Jews and the Arabs have hated each other since we've been able to write about it, so I don't see much changing in the space of a single generation....

Collective punishments[edit]
Article 33. No persons may be punished for an offense he or she has not personally committed. Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited.
Pillage is prohibited.
Reprisals against persons and their property are prohibited.

All the above have been done by the IDF in the past in palestine and are being done again as we speak. Yet I do not see anyone putting Israel up on war crimes charges. Netanyahu should be in the dock at the Hague on at least 3 warcrime charges as should many of the generals / commanders in the IDF considering that Israel are signatories of the geneva convention.

They have stolen land over the past 60 years and systematically displaced the Palestinians.

The United States is still complicit in these war crimes of Israel, by failing to stop them and support them still.

As said by plenty of others:

hang on half the time your saying israel runs the US now your saying the US owns israel.

you can't have it both ways.

Ooooh just a wee over-exaggeration there.

Zoomee cant you use spoilers for your huge photos? How many people are now swayed because its that guy from Raging Bull! He's a celebrity, he must be extra special!

Wassup - the truth hurt? ;)

moan, moan, moan, moan, moan - That's all you've been good at so far in this thread Devlish. Just like Tefal - quick posts to try to discredit valid posters, without any evidence to back your point of view. Yet constantly requiring evidence from others.

Naive is this view you have of the world if you think Israel is not showing itself for its true colours - A racist apartheid state.
