Spec me a sports car..

My father bought a 2.5 yr old 2k mile Jag XK for this kind of money. Basically a new car for half price.

Would just like to say, that you can get 2005~ DB9's for about £30K. I noticed one on Autotrader which has a new engine in it for around the £30K mark, and there are a few others with 40 - 60K on the clock. All look to be in good condition. ;)

V8 Vantage will bore the **** off you if you want a drivers car. Not quick enough either. Sure, looks great, but you seem to want a drivers car and sadly the Aston lacks thrills.

The 997.1 is more delicate for sure, but in return it sounds nicer and has a rawer edge for sure. But the 997.2 engine is better, just sounds not as nice.

I agree but for me the better quality interior and the usable satnav makes up for the sound. 997 GTS would probably be just the right fit for you.

Go and drive one and you will change your mind. A friend offer my a amazing deal on his 4.7 with just a few thousand miles on the clock but they do not drive very well and the interior feels like it will fall to bits.

Still thinking of what to go for.. I've narrowed it down to 3 I think, although 2 of those are likely over budget:

BMW Z4 35is (currently the front runner)
Merc SLK (would love an SLK55 but can't afford one (would shave to be a new shape as I don't like the previous one), not sure if the SLK 350 has the performance)
Porche Cayman (pushing the budget and won't come with all of the toys the BMW has).

I defiantly think the BMW is the from turner due to performance, toys, and folding roof.

Bit of a wildcard but you had a look at a Honda NSX? 30k will get you something nice.

I've always wanted to see if they drive as well as I hope they do in my head, I'd be taking one for a test drive at that budget. Certainly have a certain rarity factor too.

I imagine they're not for everyone though.

True, but I've been in the new shape Z4 and there much better than the older Z4m Coupe. I could never get the seat on my Z4M back far enough, but I can on the new shape Z4.

In that case this is probably where I would go. The metal folding roof is useful, means you can put the roof down all the time without worrying about hassle and no soft top as a theft risk and you can get them with plenty of toys. Comfortable enough to be used as a daily driver and certainly looks 'cool' (Porsche is almost a bit of a midlife crisis old-man car compared to the Z4 IMO, obviously not the case for most people but my perception anyway - probably more so for the convertibles).

I moved from a 2011 C2S PDK to a Z4 35is DCT and I have to say that I am very impressed with the car, ok its not even close to the 911 but I costs £25k less and for the price I just can not think of a better car for the money.

How's the DCT gearbox?

I quite like it when you put it into DS, its still not a patch on the PDK. I think the alpina TCU flash will bring it to life.

If can can afford a Gen 2 Cayman S go for that however if you can't the Z4 is the next best thing.

I don't think I can get a Gen 2 Cayman for my 30k Budget. certainly not one from a Porsche dealer.

I've only driven a 911 when the PDK were buttons on the steering wheel, but it was crap compared to the DCT in the Z4. If you put the car into Sport+ and shift the gear lever into sport, it changes gear much faster and smoother than a the Gen 1 PDK.
