Do you believe in evolution ?

Evolution doesn't disprove a 'god' or some underlying intelligence like most evolutionists seem to think.

I'm probably in the intelligent design camp but I don't pretend to know and get all militant about it like the very worst religious nutters and athiests do.

depends on the interpretation of 'god' for some fundamentalist Christian types who believe god literally created the universe in 6 days, created adam and eve, that the world is only Xthousand years old etc.. then this sort of thing really does undermine their idea of 'god' and they get very very butt hurt over it

for lots Christians however I believe the mainstream Catholic church, Anglican church don't have major issues with evolution (though historically this wasn't always the case - as always they've had to change/adapt their views/teaching to remain current/fit in with science... even things like the earth not being the center of the universe would be herecy at one point in history). Tis best to not make falsifiable claims in relgion and keep things abstract/changeable then people can claim new interpretations as we continually discover more about life, the universe etc...

Yeah depends how fundemtal they are
Church has the problem of name things that are not absolute absolute

That's fine back in the day. But now it's getting a bit left behind

The theory of evolution is that humans came from descendents of ape-like animals who came from other species & this goes all the way back to coming from bacteria 3.8 billion years ago.

I am really curious how this thread will evolve. I really want to know the christian point of view, why they choose to believe in evolution or not. I see a lot of stereo types on tv and news. I don't think thats the actual representation of the christian faith, but more or less a small branch.

I mostly see these kind of representation from the christians unfortunately.

Not a Christian but Muslim. I do believe in evolution in so far as there's no real alternative to it. Obviously I believe in God, but I think that like science people also don't understand God's explanation of creation (clearly only one explanation can be right) and have a tendency to fit their views into a particular teaching (eg a Christian will believe what his/her sect believes, not what Buddhism teaches about creation etc).

Stewart Lee:
I don’t know if I’m the right person to be doing jokes about religion; in the past few months, I’ve become religious, I’ve started to believe in god, creationism and intelligent design, and the reason that I now believe in god and creationism and intelligent design is because of Professor Richard Dawkins. Because when I look at something as complex and intricate and beautiful as Professor Richard Dawkins, I don’t think that just could’ve evolved by chance!

Professor Richard Dawkins was put there by god to test us, like fossils. And facts.

Not read the enitre thread.
However - do you believe in evolution?
That's a bit like do you believe in oxygen, do you believe in mavity, etc.

why do people find this hard to swollow? science has proven it op.

The question is, do you believe in crossbreeding? you get 2 different dogs, you get a cross breed, you get a black woman and a white man, you get a cross breed (or half cast what ever)... forward this over many many many generations. why is this harder to believe for many than a god plonking us here

Evolution isn't about 'believing' or not. It's simply about accepting the overwhelming evidence or not.

I'm not convinced in the evolution theory but I'm not a creationist nutter either.

people say humans getting taller etc is a sign of evolution being true but it could just be nutrition and better health.

And all you have done there is to quote one mechanism of evolution - evolution is determined by environmental factors (of which health / nutrition etc are) :)

Asking if you believe in evolution is like asking do you believe in truth. It's a stupid question given that we have sciences like molecular genetics and paleontology as well as radiometric dating and geology, which all combine to build a picture of life that could only of possibly come about by evolution by natural selection. People who deny evolution might as well deny mavity too, then hopefully they'll all just float the **** away and leave the rest of us in peace.

An environment "favouring" qualities that exist in variants of a species, resulting in evolution, is absolutely unquestionable.

Evolution was not what religion ordered.

I think those who are religious and believe in evolution are even worse, as they are nearly there but pretend to themselves it was Gods workings in some way.

So from the millions and millions of species evolved over millions of years, God decided to take action at one specific point in time and spout his whole ethos to Humans.

Not even at the beginning of Homo Sapiens rein, but he waits 5 million odd years before even appearing.
