and I quote you talking about a 'fundamental' definition of a Christian ie a fundamentalist christian

Fundamental does not mean fundamentalist - they are completely different words but I can see how you got confused.

Fundamental means a central or primary principle.

Fundamentalist means someone who demands adherence to doctrines (usually the central principles hence the root of the word).

In the context of that post then the fundamental definition of a Christian would merely be someone who believed and accepted Jesus as the son of god seeking forgiveness. There would be no stipulation to read scripture, attend church, eat quiche, etc.

I would challenge someone who believes in (for example) the Christian god, as they worship something which allows all manner of horrors to happen, while it could easily prevent them. That to me is abhorrent.

This is based on a lack of understanding of God's role within Christianity. The fact that they "allow" all manner of bad things to happen is not proof against the existence as you are applying your own feelings to something then trying to use how you feel about it as proof it doesn't exist.

If "God's role" doesn't include stopping child rape, would you agree he maybe is misusing his omnipotence a bit?

Why are you focusing on child rape? Many awful things happen, but they aren't proof against the existence of a God.

How you view such a God that won't stop these kind of things is a different matter, but it's also again based on a lack of understanding.

If free will exists, then it has to be absolute, else it's not free will.

I'm not debating his existence, I'm talking about how I find it odd that anyone would want to actively worship something which allows this to happen.

In the mind of many Christians it seems he can change the outcomes of things like sport events or finding your keys and that's fine, but stopping child abuse? That's a nope.

The issue is a lot of people can't accept (or even understand) that it's a fact that is taken on faith to be correct by the vast majority of people.

What individuals think is irrelevant.

Once the weight of evidence is compelling enough, it becomes a theory and faith doesn't enter in to the discussion.

Faith it still in it when there are the blind unwashed masses that read a news headline about a new scientific discovery and have faith that it's true.

There is actually infinitesimally small difference between them and those who listen to a preacher and have faith that it's true.

BUT LOL IT'S OK IT'S SCIENCE! DAE ATHEISM?!

Don't confuse science with the news.
