What have you done to your car today?

Reversing camera arrived Saturday so kicked off getting it fitted and wired in ready for when the new head unit lands.

And of course it wasn't a great fit into the tailgate finisher so various hand files and a dremel were required, and there was no way the wiring plugs would fir through the grommet so had to cut the cable and re-join it once I'd routed it.

Ended up spending all evening just getting the camera fitted and the wiring right for the finisher, then had to refit it in the rain because if I shut the tailgate on it's latch you'd not get it open again without the boot release button connected.

Still got to route wiring around the tailgate, through the cabin down to the dash and take a feed from the reverse lamp too. Another busy day tomorrow I expect.

Found a screw in the inner side wall of one of my rear tyres.

A pair of new ones being fitted tomorrow. I did not ask the price and have yet to inform the Wife. :)

Successfully executed a 180* handbrake turn into a parking space to MM precision while 4 people looked on...

The 19 year old in me has been satisfied now and I can go back to driving like a middle aged man. :p

New front discs and pads, and Eagle F1's all round on the 130.
It's like a new car after ditching the absolutely diabolical runflats, which were so unpredictable, hard and slippery that they were borderline dangerous.

Gave the car an overdue wash and wax too. Probably due to put some pics up at some points, don't think I've shared it since selling my E46 in Feb.

so thought i would make the most of the cooler morning again, have made a start on cleaning up the front arches ready for waxoil, the front arch liner is nightmare to get out, have a slight crack in one now , hopefully the other side will go better

yes, pics up please :)

and good choice on the tyres - really like those for grip / performance vs price.

I test drove a 118D M-Sport with runflats and the ride was fine on a smooth bit of road, I couldn't feel every single loose chipping through my spine as it went under the wheel, like some people described it to me as, but my god it was awful on a loose bit of country road. I was expecting refinement and comfort. xD

It did corner incredibly flat though... At least it felt like it did in comparison to what I'm used to. It was a slightly strange experience to be perfectly honest.

With a week off work I've been cracking on with stripping down the car and replacing the cooling system as well as getting some of the body off to paint. It's sorn at the moment but im planning on new brakes, roof and possibly wheels before putting it back on the road.

While waiting for my new headunit to land I kicked off the wiring needed to sort the reversing camera - simple case of routing & wiring in cables for the camera output, and power feed off the reverse light circuit.

That still took me several hours today stripping trim off the tailgate and boot area and doing various lengthening of cables, cutting and splicing connections, finding best routings and applying lots of pvc & cloth tape. And it's hard to see now what has been done, which was the whole point of taking my time with it I guess.

Still got work to do in the boot and running the lead forward to the headunit which landed by the time I'd done all the above :D

Insignia ctdi - change oil, filter, air filter, pollen filter, front brake pads

Mazda rx8 - washed

Golf mk1 - more parts arrived, finished installing parcel shelf supports, rear cards and cleaned out the boot. Actually starting to look like a car..

Sent my spare turbo off to be rebuilt by Midland Turbo. Getting it done to the same state as my current, failing one (internal wastegate welded up, rotated slightly to clear exhaust manifold). Current one I had gotten with this external wastegate kit and it's been burning oil (exhaust seals on the way out).

Hopefully my car won't be smelling like a Total bitumen plant any more after I've been giving it some boost :D

Oil/filter change and four new Goodyear Ultragrip 8's - garage even washed the car and hoovered the carpets too. Perfect! :D

Changed 4 bulbs in the headlamps yesterday, I don't think one of the bulbs is seated quite right as the beam pattern was off when I tested them last night. As soon as I can be bothered to drag myself out of bed it'll be another half hour of cut hands and excessive swearing, I can't imagine how someone with big hands would fare on such a fiddly, annoying task.

Followed Dad on his freshly built 1929 Scott TT Replica on the first test run on the roads, with "support" in the back of the car.

She was smoking a bit. Got the front of the car covered in oil vapour... :(
