"The World's First 3D V-NAND SSD One giant leap ahead"

erm, considering samsung already have ssds on the market with 1gbps read/write where's the giant leap?

a small bump imho

time to flood the market with m.2

The mention of this makes me think it gets hot:

The 850 PRO includes Dynamic Thermal Guard protection, which keeps your PC performance safe from overheating. Dynamic Thermal Guard protection monitors and maintains the drive's optimal operating temperature with a throttle feature that automatically drops the SSD's temperature when necessary to protect your data and ensure the responsiveness you expect.

1gbps read/write? are you talking about samsung's RAPID DRAM caching? That only really work in becnhmarks anyway, nobody really cares about sustained throughput in benchmarks, doesnt reflect real world usage.

Anyway the leap is the 3d v-nand used, what it means for future higher-capacity drives and of course the 10-year warranty it brings with it. better than any other drive out there, including mechanical drives, so they must be very confident in it, which is only a good thing for us consumers.

Will be interesting to see what the 3d nature of the chips means for heat dissipation. You're right that's worth keeping in mind and hopefully somebody reviewing the drives will give them a pummeling to test that.

they maybe not tons faster, but they are faster
and same price as the old 840pro, whats not to like :)
i think the 840pro at launch was a lot more

and yeh 10 year warranty is crazy :o

10year warranty is pointless imo

they will be obsolete in 3-4 years newer faster tech is already coming with sata express

just gimme cheaper £ per gb like crucial are currently doing with the mx100 range and we will all be happy

Not really! people still use hard drives. I'd take 10years warranty over 3anyday even though it is much more expensive than traditional SSD's

Do you have a confirmed date for when these will be available? Says 31st July on the website, I just wanted to check this is correct before ordering.

I'm guessing these will be out on M.2 socket soon? As SATA is basically exceeded already.

I had a 5 year warranty on a 128GB crucial M225, it died after 3 years and i returned under warranty, they didnt make them any more, or its successor the C300 or w/e it was called. so i got a 128GB crucial M4 as a replacement, a 2 generation leap. Some long warranties are good when you get a situation like that.

OK A quick update on the delivery of these drives for you all. I should be getting a small order of the 512GB drives in today and this will cover all back orders and will have a few left over for new orders.

The 128GB drives will be in on Monday and will cover off all back orders and with some free stock as well.

The 256GB and 1TB drives will be landing on Friday next week the 8th.

As i get more stock in and more info I will let you all know.

still not seen much m.2 stuff coming :(
samsungs drive that is fast on m.2 is still quite a lot more, like twice as much
the only cheaper ones i see are slow

PLextor are still theonly ones to offer a full M.2 ssd with PCI-E speeds. Intel are bringing one out but will not be out till the end of the year hopefully. Others might have a few out by then as well. All the others are still SATA 6Gbps

I may end up grabbing one of these but I feel we're on the edge of a load of new SSD stuff with M.2 coming in, and stacked memory. 2TB SSDs can't be far off now. I really want one of these 1TB drives though....

I need a new job... extremely high pay and low effort ideally. That or counselling about my PC spending addiction.
