Those markings are for the red cog, spinning left is +, right is -.. The bolt it points to is what the cog is threaded through. Never seen a mechanism like that before, but maybe that adjusts the tilt?

Hi guys,

where can i get some really cheap wheelset for my fixie project. I dont care for Brand/spec etc. just need some wheels that are cheap.

thanks

woosh...

Why didn't I realise it was just pointing out the obvious..
those shiny metal bits at the side had me thinking it was something else :S

It's not like the front bolt is reverse threaded so I don't see the point in pointing it out :p

still the most bizarre seat post I've seen, the white clamp piece I had to flick to make sure it wasn't porcelain it's like a total mind ****

maybe it's some weird cyclocross specific thing to reinforce the seatpost :S even the ultegra version of my bike has the same one but I don't see it on any of their roadbikes at all

Undo the bolt at the rear to loosen it all then use the red thumbscrew to adjust angle. Tighten up the bolt at the rear to hold it all in place again.

I know this is going to sound a little strange, but does anyone else struggle with eating and sleeping after a big ride?
Every time I go for a big ride, 40+ miles. I really struggle to eat that same day, literally have to force food down at dinner time, after riding in the morning! I always have a **** night's sleep as well.
However, the next day I'll eat like mad and sleep all day if I gave myself chance.

I'm guessing it's something to do with the adrenaline. Does anyone else have a similar issue?
Quite normal when you've overdone it a bit. Try and get a little bit down, but just eat when you get hungry.

The poor night's sleep is also quite normal. You usually notice it if you've exercised hard late in the day, too close to bed time.

Went to London last week and had some time to kill so hired a Borris bike.... the best fun I've had in ages! Now I'm kinda hooked and looking to get my own bike.

I'll mainly use it to cycle around town and on weekends go out of town. My budget is around £200 for the bike. Anyone recommend me a bike? I'm 5'10" so what inch should I be looking at?

£200 won't get you much unless you go second hand, and even then you may struggle. £300 is a better budget and gets you a Triban 3 from Decathlon, £400 is much better and gets you the Felt F95 from Wiggle. Beyond there things really open up.

Now, I appreciate I'm basically telling you to double your budget, so I'll understand if you're hesitant. But yeah, £200 won't get you much. It'll be heavy, with poor parts which probably won't last. A bad bike could put you off, or if you get into it it'll make you resent spending money on it when you have to buy something better!

Oh yeah, and I've recommended you two road bikes, but I'm guessing you're about to tell me you'd rather have a hybrid, yeah?

or Cyclocross ? :P

Lol yes thinking hybrid since others at work have them. Are hybrids rubbish?

Not nearly as rubbish as people will tell you they are. If you enjoy riding a hybrid, I'm not going to tell you not to just because I ride a road bike. They're not great for serious off road work and they're not great for serious on road fast riding, but you've said all you want to do is ride round town and get out of town a bit at the weekends, so a hybrid would be ok. And hey, if you enjoy it, just do it.

That being said, £200 won't get you a lot of hybrid, either. Can you stretch to a bit closer to £300 to get something like the Carrera Subway from Halfords?

Yay, I'm home and my new wheels are here. H Plus Son Archetypes on Miche Primato hubs. Fit as. I'll post pics once I've got them on the bike and... um... cleaned my bike. So probably Friday.

In the meantime I'm going to give them a test ride tonight.

Yes I could, but the subway has beefy tyres looks more like a mountain bike

As said you ain't gotta a lot of choice with this budget, you can always change the tyres down the line to something narrower and more slick if you feel they are slowing you down.

Dawes Discovery range starts below £300 and has 700C wheels with road orientated tyres.

I'm keeping with my hybrid (or 'commuter' bike as my one is categorised by the manufacturer) and TBH as I don't race it or ride with others the bit of pace that I lose doesn't really matter.

Is my heartrate a little high on this, or about what it should be for cycling?

http://www.strava.com/activities/172427425

Just got my Garmin, so not sure what kind of read outs I should be expecting. (I'm 29, 6ft, 84kgs)

Well first of all, there is no number for what your heart rate should be, because it can vary massively between individuals. It also depends how hard you're working. If you want to train based upon your heart rate, you first need to do a maximal and lactate threshold test, or something to at least establish those numbers.

The only time you need to worry about your heart rate being too high is if you're doing a long ride and you're trying to limit going into the read, or a long hill climb/time trial, or targeted training for specific zones.

Argh, so my new wheels have an 11 speed freehub and he hasn't sent the spacer I need to fit a 10 speed cassette.

Can anyone link me to somewhere I can get the right spacer that I need for this? Preferably from Evans or Halfords, but I'll settle for online and paying for next day delivery or whatever, given I need this by the weekend.

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
