Cars you nearly purchased and now regret not buying...

I simply don't believe any straight Sagaris has ever been 17k. Decent original Tuscans barely dipped to 10k. 1Ms were never 'cheap' either. They've always pretty much held.

With regards to the topic, I have always prioritised living abroad or in places that had procluded having or needing a car so have very rarely been in a position to buy let alone regret buying. Whether I regret that, I'm not sure.

Straight yes, but not clean, you needed 25k when I was looking.

Only a year ago they were 35k:-

15k appreciation in just one year, I was looking 4-5yr ago when they were 17-25k region. :)

A deal was selling a 1M near Stoke a few years ago, was sub 30k, they are now 45k from dealers.....

Nearly bought a 1987 BMW 316 chromie for £400. The shell was in excellent condition, the interior was in decent enough condition, and with a little bit of fiddling it would have been a good runner as well.

It got stripped, sold in bits and scrapped in the end.

Would have been a nicer thing to have than a Polo. :(

Don't be silly. Polo is a statement.

It shows you're alpha.

When I was looking for my Accord Type-R. I was also looking at Civic Type-R's. Rather have bought the Civic, it would have given me a lot less problems.

I gave serious consideration to a (second-hand) Bentley Continental after sitting in one at Goodwood. I am a very odd shape - tall and long in the trunk but short in the arms and huge feet - so there are few cars in which I have both legroom and headroom, but I decided that my proximity to a school might make the car a target, and I purchased a Skoda Yeti instead.

Big contrast! Although I really like the Yeti and am not the biggest fan of the conti... so good choice :)

I definitely regret not buying a an Aston DB5 brand new, now they are worth lots more. It ranks alongside not investing in Facebook in 2004 for me.

Back in 2001 I was offered a black 1988 (I think) Lamborghini Countach LP5000S for £40k. I so very nearly bought it as an investment but at the time I was stupid busy with work and couldn't find the time to do the deal.
If I had bought it, it would be worth about £400k now.

A Bentley Continental was on your radar and you bought a Skoda Yeti

Yes. I'm 6'4" and long in the trunk and there are very few cars into which I will fit. Fitting comfortably was the primary consideration. And it would have been a second-hand (~£40K) Bentley. I also considered the Mercedes C63 AMG but legroom was tight and my feet are such that their silly footbrake (not the brake pedal) got in the way. A third option was the original Nissan GTR - on the new one they decreased the headroom by an inch, which meant I could no longer fit. But that's really a weekend car and I needed an everyday car.

Another factor was that Bentley don't have a dealer in Aberdeen. (Big oil town, lots of money, go figure.)

But being right next to a school is a bit of a target. So I got myself the turbo-nutter version of the Yeti.

Offtopic, but you considered doing that? I'd be livid, especially if it was a large punt.

Yeah, Facebook's flotation on the stock market in 2004 was amazing. Feels like it only happened a year or two ago. :p

For me it was buying my EP3 (about 10 years ago) for 12k instead of buying a Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II.

One sells for £20k+ the other you're lucky to get £2k.

Oh well.

Nothing as fancy as in this thread but I regret not going after a Mondeo about a month ago!

10 plate Titanium X Sport with all the options, FSH and what not, 80k miles for 7800!! :(

Oh well :p

^This

I sent a few of us on a mission to find the owners number to make sure he had sold it, if anyone remembers. It sold, absolute bargain and that was a year and half ago now :(

You must be the first person ever to draw up a shortligst of a Bentley, Mercedes C63, Nissan GTR and Skoda Yeti :p
