I've enjoyed both thoroughly. Been a few dodgy sections but it was the same with LOTR.

Don't even compare to LOTR.
The source material doesn't help plus the very heavy use of CGI and cartoon physics kills any sense of been drawn into the film.

Almost fell asleep watching the party scene from the first one as it just went on forever. The second film never really gripped me at all. Completely agree with the rabbit chase bits too. That said the way the second film ended has me curious about the direction in which this installment will go (never read the books).

It's a really small book too, an inch thick at best.
I personally loved The Desolation of Smaug. The dark atmosphere, seeing more of the Necromancer then Sauron revealing himself. I personally hoped this sort of darkness of the story build up was what I would have experienced in Return of the King.
Nothing in Lord of the Rings really has felt as dark as The Desolation of Smaug for me. Perhaps in the Mines of Moria. There wasn't anything that really evil or dark except the Balrog. Yet sadly the Balrog didn't last that long.
Then experiencing Smaug himself creeping about. Loved all the talking, trying to find Bilbo and finding the Preciousss. Totally loved the dark atmosphere and how long it lasted. Plus seeing the scale and detail of him.
It's also amazing how Jackson captures New Zealand's scenery/mountains. It truly is stunning. Plus the art and colouring in the movies are stunning. Especially the scenes in Rivendell. Gorgeous lighting and always enjoyed the soft dialogue.
It's nearly saddening this will all end soon. Still can't get over how this all kicked off in 2001 then seeing the script and acting start in 1998/99. Such a strange feeling.

He got slated for making the previous 3 (an average) 3 n Half hours long... "Oh They're too short... They missed this... they missed that...
Now he's trying to get (almost) everything from the book (plus a few extras as it'd be pretty boring watching someone talk to them self etc...) and he's being slated for that!!
Me.. I like all 5 so far (the LOTR Trilogy and the first two of The Hobbit) I'm looking forward to this a whole heck of a lot!!!...

I watched the last one in 3d on my tv at home and was enjoying it. Will definitely watch the last one. I agree not as good as the original 3 LOTR films.

hy would I be joking, and average view if the hobbit series is hardly poor, it's only just behind lot on IMDB.
But its lotr, it's like a religion, can't have a differing opinion. Hobbit so far have been better and more interesting. Both series have had poor CGI and kiddie bits.

Radagast wasn't even in the Hobbit afaik. They're not really an adaptation. it's The Hobbit + other stuff that was happening in the world that is important for the overall story.
