Canon responding to the Sigma 35mm & 50mm ART lenses ?

They are due replacements that's for sure. The 35mm IS they released is supposed to be pretty good, it ain't no f1.4 though :D
 
Well, the 24 is mk2, the 85 is also mk2, technically the 50mm is mk2 as well as they had a 50/1.0 L on EOS mount not long ago.

35L pre-dates DSLR !
 
Blimey never knew the EF 35mm was quite THAT old Raymond !....Hope its not another BIG lens out of the reach of us mere mortals Rojin !...or could it at last be the elusive 7D2 ?
 
The 35L is already significantly more expensive than the Sigma and, given Canon's penchant lately for hiking the prices of their Mk2 versions, the 35L II could end up being way too expensive.

Same sort of price as the 24/1.4 mkii possibly, when it settles down.

There were rumors of a release last year and the price was like £1600 or so.
Nikon and canon are both increasing prices but canon a little more so than Nikon, so £1600 looks about right IMO.

Time will tell.

Well it had better be staggeringly good to justify twice the price of the Sigma. It'll be an improvement but I doubt that much of an improvement.

Sigma have stepped up their game and Canon are going to have trouble justifying some of their prices I feel.

The costs are high for the general consumer but Pros and Agencies can swallow it up, they wouldn't even consider a 3rd party lens.

It would be interesting to see the ratio of pro vs consumer lens sales.

Well I'd guess that CPS would be a major factor in pro's buying the Canon lenses over the Sigma's regarding of how they perform
 
Oh yeah, Pros are always going to buy Canon but I still reckon there's a significant market for enthusiasts, a lot of whom Canon risk alienating if their prices don't reflect performance versus the competition.
 
Sigma have definitely upped their game in production of lenses !....wonder if they did a Sigma equivalent of Canon's CPS service whether it would tempt pro's away from Canon/Nikon lenses ? (provided image quality was there as well of course)

That's what I think too. It'll come out, and be the same sort of price you see now, with a bit stuck on top (like the 70-200mkii made my wallet cry - and I've used it twice :p). Personally I think they'll make it so it's evenly better across the range as the Sigma, water sealed and that'll be about it. I doubt Canon will bring out USB docks (although it would be a great idea) so the winning part will be as mentioned, the pros will stick to Canon to get the CPS.

Still, the price is the major sticking point for most, and it should definitely give Canon pause for thought. Too high and they'll lose a load of custom to Sigma, too cheap and it'll lose the profit and CPS, and would most likely become a non L lens.
 
Couldn't see Sigma doing anything to rival Canon or Nikon servicing or why they would even want to? They are making some nice lenses and offering quality at competitive prices.
 
why would the want to ?....to tempt Pro's away from Canon/Nikon etc, add the pro level servicing of lenses to a competitive price AND quality and its a winner !
