My New Car

It's a nice car, but you should have shopped around...so many nice vehicles out there for 30k. Definitely better than a Golf anyway.

I don't get this with people.

This is what the OP wanted to spend his money on. You may or may not agree (well it seems clear you don't :p) but why do you just assume he's ignorant?

I have a mk7 gti...cant see me need to upgrade to an R when the time comes though

its as fast I would ever conceivably need on a public road its not bad on the fuel, its reasonable to tax and its laughably cheap to insure (208 quid for the year ahead!...bear in mind I am an ancient 44 year old with an impeccable history)

as nice as the R looks..it would have to be a blue one for me, I will see if I can get a drive in my dealers when mine goes in for its service! they have had to take some of the boot space though havent they to make room for 4 wheel drive stuff.

the gti is as good an all rounder as I have ever had in my many years of driving

Cheers Chanjy, I have always wanted a Golf...and well I am lucky enough to work hard and not waste my money on Drinking or Smoking. Yes it might be a lot of money, but I only live once and I could die tomorrow...so live life while you can I say.

And now I have the car, if I decide to PX or sell its still going to hold its money. These aren't common cars only seen 3 or 4 and I live in MK and Central London.

It's a bit of jealously on my part, I can't afford to spend that much on a car so it pains me to see it 'wasted' on a Golf. My opinion of course, but still, it doesn't appear to the minority opinion in this topic.

Such as? Tried a few and nothing comes close in that size and 300bhp from 2ltr AWD hot hatch wipes most the competition out. The R and the GTI I test drove were a much better build quality than the S3 as it had rattles and creaks the ride quality was better in the VW as well. Can understand why N00bie picked the R as it a great car and if you like a car it is worth every penny IMO.

Fair play, think most the negative remarks if honest would be jealousy. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Nice car dude, I like these a lot. Don't think the colour quite does it justice, but thats a personal preference. Enjoy!!

I kinda get this point of view, but at the same time, the same could be said about any purchase.

£10k buys a diesel Focus, but is that wasted as that could have also bought an E46 M3? (I'd wager yes, but only because my situation dicates that the M3 would be a better buy).

I do like these unlike previous Rs it is winning many group tests and regarded as the better car over a GTI. I took a demo car up to Glencoe and took in some great roads handling/performance/ride quality are excellent. The speed you can maintain down a country road is immense and can induce laughter at points.

I do think it is getting silly when a well spec'd Golf R is closer to 40k than 30k but new cars are expensive a top of range diesel Focus is 24k before options (well aware you can get a discount on this) compared to 30.5k for a stock Golf R doesn't make it seem that bad compared to the rest of the market as it will hold its value well.

Cars are silly expensive, but damn I can say for the money I spent the car is well worth it, handling fantastic and the ability to tune the driving experience is so fun.

How long did it take after you placed the order?

It wasn't a brand new order.

No one traded anything in mate, it was first owned by VW and I am the first real owner. The Branch Manager had my car as a lease since March. It was £39,995 with the extras, brought down to £33,885 I think and I picked it up for what I mentioned above :)

And mate, these go like stink! some Golf was behind me after flashing to let me out. And I stuck in race and I was gone!
