Gotta love the internet and modern technologies undermining good old fashion soviet era propaganda.

Might have been hacked like the other soldier, and a bit of GPS ghosting fiddling carried out.

Or an even simpler explanation:

Handling Errors

The earth's ionosphere and atmosphere cause delays in the GPS signal that translate into position errors. See a summary of error sources.
Some errors can be factored out using mathematics and modeling.
The configuration of the satellites in the sky can magnify other errors.
Differential GPS can eliminate almost all error.

The other possibility is that this guy was posting photos on the internet while on a secret mission in another nation's territory (unlikely).

my garmin cycling computer is always accurate to within a few feet.

I'm assuming military grade GPS are at least as accurate as the gps in my garmin which is usually connected to over a dozen satellites at any time

Was being sarcastic r.e yet another ludicrous theory by Danny.

Seems to have escaped your notice that I'm not the one believing a theory. Just pointing out alternative quite possible explanations.

But go ahead and believe the theory that a soldier on a secret mission inside another country uploaded pics to the internet, if you wish.

Yep, one theory is he forgot to turn off geotagging, the other is GPS was repeatedly off by a number of miles in a series of photos.

Again, good job no one uses GPS to navigate with.

It's hardly the dumbest thing anyone has ever posted on line.

the Russian army is far from the best disciplined as well, probably just some idiot showing off not realising the implication it could have

Your claims of "repeatedly off" and "in a series of photos" aren't accurate. Only one photo is geo-tagged (whether accurately or in error) as being taken just inside Ukraine. The others are geo-tagged as being taken within Russia.

For you to describe my explaining why I find it unlikely, and suggesting plausible alternatives, as a ludicrous theory, strikes me as the type of unreasonableness displayed by those acting like we are already at war with Russia and that whatever "our side" puts out must be accepted as the truth, no questions asked.

Not so long ago, the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag reported that there are dozens of FBI and CIA agents stationed in Kiev, helping to orchestrate the offensive against the people in the east.

Just like the selfie incident, we don't know for a fact if it is true or not. Can only choose to believe, disbelieve, or keep an open mind about it.
