It's hardly the dumbest thing anyone has ever posted on line.
Who do I believe ? Some guy on the tinterweb or the worlds media ? Tough one.![]()
Lets see how this plays out before we jump the gun.
Got to be kidding, Arknor. A soldier chosen for a secret mission inside another country, with so much attention on it, and the information war going on, goes and uploads a pic from inside Ukraine (allegedly), and it's hardly the dumbest thing anyone's ever posted? Man, it would have to rank right up there.![]()
It is strange to think you don't consider this as a possibility,
thinking more likely that military GPS is b0rked?
Might have been hacked like the other soldier, and a bit of GPS ghosting fiddling carried out.
Or an even simpler explanation:
The other possibility is that this guy was posting photos on the internet while on a secret mission in another nation's territory (unlikely).
Not really, you just didn't read carefully. I said it was a possibility but I find it unlikely. Don't know how you interpret the word "unlikely", but it still implies there's a possibility.
It was the first thing you said.
The other possibility is that this guy was posting photos on the internet while on a secret mission in another nation's territory (unlikely).
so posting photos is unlikely, massive GPS failure less so?
Geo-tagging failure of just a few miles wouldn't be as massive as showing a geo-tag for the other side of a continent or even the other side of the world, as you can see for yourself if you browse the Twitter hashtag I linked to.
Because its on twitter doesn't mean its true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe GD is some huge FSB hack to confuse everyone, eh? How about that one! It certainly baffles me sometimes...
He's not using military GPS...he's on Facebook, he's on his own phone or a civilian computer. If he's using military hardware he would be using glonass as he's Russian (the US don't tend to hand out access to military GPS decoding to the Russians). But I would be surprised if you can go on the internet using Russian military hardware
Literally the only options are glonass or civilian GPS.
If he's using his phone it can be a mile or so off as facebook just picks off from the nearest mast (my Facebook posts from a village about a mile away) but I don't think it would be as far off as people are claiming.
