What phone should I upgrade to?

I would say go for the M8, it feels very nice and hardware wise it's a very good phone, especially the speakers. But the camera is a bit of a let down if you often take pictures... If you do take quite a few pictures, then the Z2 is the better phone for the job.
 
I only really use my camera for snapchat really, so I don't need it to be amazing, from what I've heard, both the z2 and the m8 are very evenly matched, trading blows in different aspects, the only thing that bothered me about the z2 other than the pretty small power button which I could live with, was the slightly leggy loading after unlocking the phone, but I think that's probably the stock android version

So short version, I'm really not sure between them, I like the feel of the m8 slightly more, but I like the slightly larger screen and battery of the z2, plus I'm slightly more inclined towards Sony over htc

If the photos you take aren't of pretty horizons or landscapes and viewing them on a big screen (like a TV/large monitor) and you're planning on keeping 90% of your photos on the phone, the HTC M8 makes so much sense. The file sizes are so much more manageable, easily shareable, can take many more photos with the same space and a near instant shutter speed as a result.

The photos my HTC One M7 takes is fantastic, the M8 should be even better. HTC are also releasing updates much quicker these days which is nice. If the One M8 had the same marketing budget dedicated to it as Sony/Samsung dedicates to it's phones, it would be a massive hit.
 
Most of my pics are of people and things as they happen not still lifes of flowers or scenery so latency is my biggest bugbear.
 
Tbh, the camera isn't much of a crucial thing to me, I'd prefer to have a nicer overall phone (which I'm going to suspect that ill get told is the m8 again)

Same. Both the HTC One M8 and M7 have near instant autofocus and shutter speed. And for those times you want to take a photo of flowers etc, you just have to spend a bit more time tweaking settings to get an excellent photo.

Unarguably the camera is seen at the weakest point of the phone. The camera is still very good indeed, which speaks volumes about the rest of the phone.
 
I'm probably gonna go for the m8, as the fact that you can get it on ee for cheaper then £38 a month for not much up front makes it a lot cheaper than the z2 for me :)
 
Z2 every day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

Noise reduction headphones, Fantastic screen and Camera, Good stereo speakers and phenomenal Battery make this a great choice.
 
The apparently better screen and larger battery were what I was liking the look of over the m8, along with the fact the speakers are supposed to be pretty good, I've seen it for £27.99 a month with unlimited data (which is a draw for me even if its 3G only) which is cheaper than the £32.99 and 10gb data of the m8, but that does have 4g (even if I don't live in a place which has it)
 
Sorry to highjack but I currently have a HTC One X and would like a phone with a bigger screen. Would the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 be a good upgrade? I think they're about the same spec-wise but the Note has the bigger screen.

And doesn't sit at all well in the pocket with its square corners. :(

Battery shouldn't be that much better than anything else provided they're all on Kitkat. And if you're going for battery life the LG G3 would be my choice (though battery life will suffer a bit while gaming due to the higher resolution screen).

If front-facing speakers are important it's hard to look at anything other than the M8. The Z2's speakers aren't as good (even though a big plus point over most phones is that they're front facing). The only relatively weak point of the M8 is the camera for some (though I like what they're trying to do, they're not quite managed it yet).

Personally, I'd save the money, go down to a sim-only deal and either wait on the next Nexus device in around November time or go for the OnePlus One - there are a couple of niggles (the increasingly rare yellow screen and the multi-finger gestures on certain surfaces), but it's a superb value big phone.

As a Z2 owner it sits absolutely fine in a pocket. The edges are rounded but of course not as round as its competitors. No phone purchase should ever be made on how it sits in a pocket!.

Also I can't understand your choice of G3 over a Z2 with regards the battery. The Z2 has a bigger battery at 3200mAh vs 3000mAh.

I have just looked at a review where they did a 90 minute HD loop. The Z2 lost 20%, M8 23% and the G3 30%. To pick the G3 for the battery is crazy.

That's entirely a matter of opinion, but for me it certainly doesn't sit fine. If it's not at the right angle even a bit it can be quite painful when a corner digs in. While a mate does have one and gets on OK with it, I considered it but just couldn't get used to it. It probably depends on what trousers you're wearing though and how much space there is in the pocket.

I was remembering it being better from what I'd read, though in that review he does go on to say that when not viewing video battery life is it's a lot better. Again it would depend on your use of the phone.
 
Realistically you won't make a bad choice with any of them is the very good news, I've spent a few months with all of them and while I personally moved from an M8 to a Z2 for a daily personal, I use a iPhone/S5 for office stuff and the M8 only got replaced because the Z2 had items personal to me that I preferred.

While the Z2 is larger and more cumbersome to use, I preferred the screen (I use it indoor a lot more than outdoor) and the software (it's essentially stock Android with a while skin). I preferred the S5 as a work phone for the ease of integration with work services (this is highly workplace tech dependant). The M8 was the most rounded handset to me personally - it's great at everything and only because I have no costs to switch did I make the move for the reasons above.
 
Just trying to decide how much data I'd actually need each month, either 4gb or 10gb, I definitely need 2gb+, as I used at least that much the month before last (that was with my normal usage) I'm thinking that I'd probably like to be able to stream some anime if I am not on wifi
