Conversely, making them 18-rated films would not guarantee they'd be any better. There are, after all, lots of very bad (as in quality) 18-rated films.

Whatever the certificate, it's highly unlikely that any new Terminator film could live up to the originals. They were simply great films. A product of their times. We had a glut of really good sci-fi in that period.
 
True, but those films were at least aimed at an adult audience with adult themes. These new films are aimed at kids, with super cool 3d effects and explosions instead of a decent story, characters etc. Dumbed down so the kiddies will be entertained throughout.

The removal of the violence and gore etc is just the de-icing of the cake. Like if they cut the scene where the Terminator removes his rotting eye and John Connors step dad gets impaled through the mouth while drinking a carton of milk, plus the many other great scenes that would have to go.
 
If it's half as good as T1, it'll be cracking. Unfortunately I foresee it being a turd like 3, and Salvation.

I'll still watch it mind, as for a start it's Arnie.
 
The first film was 30 years ago. 30 years, well 29 as it hit the UK in Feb 85 I think, since I first saw it at the cinema. Still up there as one of my favourite films of all time.

T2 was on TV the other day and it did show the milk scene (which I was surprised at).

Ultimately, these films are simply aimed at the widest demographic possible - entertain the masses (which includes 12 year old kids!)

I would have liked to have seen some recent releases at least a 15 rating but in this day and age it isn't going to happen often.
 
I hope they stick to an 18 certificate, the original was pretty much an ultra violent sci fi thriller which fitted the 18 rating perfect. Certification has changed these days, cinema is not the same anymore.
 
There is an element of that, Willir (aiming for lower ratings to pull in a bigger audience), but there has also been a significant change in ratings policy. After all, "Dirty Dancing" is a 15 FFS.
 
As checjb said, there is a significant change in film ratings from the time the Terminator came out to films rated these days.
 
Greece was originally release on Video as an 18 certificate!

I remember having to stick the '18' stickers (al all the other certificates) on video's, When I worked in a Video Shop, following a big list from the BBFC when they first released certification on Home Video...

Living tissue degenerates with age. Maybe that particular specimen has been operating for a while?
 
Looks like Arnie has a hair piece on, his Hair is much thinner at the front. Could be decent though I really doubt it. Everyone wanted a follow-up to T2 and look how that turned out, was essentially a worse version of T2 with older characters.
