AMD freesync coming soon, no extra costs.... shocker

I can live without freesync if I can get a 3440x1440 for ~600.

If one's approaching ~700 I'd want freesync.

The LG's a no go at its current price.

Don't AOC have one in the pipeline? No idea on price though but would imagine it'll be cheaper then the LG.

I'm still puzzled as to how amd can say it's coming at a certain date yet not name any manufacturers and then say they can't give manufacturer specific time frames. Seems to slightly contradict one another. Time will tell I guess.

As for cost of implementation, Richard Huddy believes that the added cost should be no more than $10-20 USD (to the manufacturer).

What happened to free and no extra cost? ;)

That's going to mean about £20 added onto the price of monitors whether you use Freesync or not, if anything AMD have driven up the price of all DP1.3 monitors.

So, $10 to $20 extra cost to the manufacturer.... Will the manufacturer swallow that? I distinctly remember being told by many that it wouldn't cost any extra to add this in.

Edit:

Title of this thread sums it up :D

$10-$20 is hardly a lot of money is it?

It's if the manufacturers then decide they can charge a large premium (£100+) that i'd have an issue.

10-20$ to a manufacturer, that could easily translate into the UK as an extra 30 quid to a UK customer.

And the amount is irrelevant, when it's been touted at "No extra cost".

But hey, PEOPLES CHAMPION.

There's a 4K Gsync monitor at the same price as none Gsync 4K monitors, same TN panel.

The Acer 27" 1080 144hz gsync is also at the same price point as equivalent non gsync models. I guess we'll see if it's just aggressive Acer pricing when the benq and Phillips models hit, though iirc a while back gibbo did say the benq units would be around the same cost as current models :)

So, Freesync's real name should be ; Moreexpensivethangysncsync

/Lol.

Like it matters now? Talk about price when the displays hit shops. 20 dollars onto manufacturing is hardly something worth talking about.
It's more interesting if manufacturer will add extra onto the displays price more then the cost to make.

About the name Freesync, maybe it's called that because manufacturers are free to add it when they please? They don't after get the go ahead from nvidia by paying them cash?
Freesync can be added without the need or 3rd party.
