The olde TV licence

You need to take your tinfoil hat off it seems to be interfering with your I.Q.

I'm sure what he's getting at is that the only time they actually successfully prosecute someone is when the person in question actually admits to receiving TV without a license, and signs the appropriate forms that state this. Ergo, they form a contract at that point admitting that they have done so and that they agree to whatever happens next (to an extent).

This!

And what i would like to know,Those of us who pay a monthly subscription for a TV package such as Virgin or Sky,Why do we still have to pay TV licence on top?...are we not already paying for this "Licence" with our subscription?

The subscription does not include the TVL.

Do you mean to claim that his account it is untrue based solely on your personal experience being different thus suggesting that your experience is the definitive one?

To be fair people who claim that the TVL and it's agents are all a massive conspiracy out to get you seem to fall into two groups.

People who've read about a third hand event that happened to someone's mothers second cousins cats baby sitter.

People who just ignore the letters and then wonder why they keep getting letters/visits.

People like me who just fill out the online form confirming I don't need a TVL because I don't watch live TV get the minor hassle of having to fill out the form every 2 years. No letters each month, no house visits nothing.

What I object to is the need to know my name. No other agencies harrass me about needing licenses that I have no need for. Dva don't come knocking to ask me to take out a psv or hgv licence.
I have already told them twice that I don't need one directly to their salesmen but yet the letters still arrive.
Surely it's the house that is covered under the licence so my name is irrelevant to their needs unless of course I need to purchase one andctheyvneed my name for the direct debit or whatever

Why should I? Why should I spend my personal time informing some mass media corporation weather I watch TV or not?

Possibly because in this instance it's the government that has decided a tax is due if you watch TV, and given the task of collecting the tax to the organisation?
You don't have to tell the TVL you don't need a licence, but don't get upset/annoyed about the letters that they send out to unregistered properties that haven't let them know they don't need a license, as they are doing what the Government have told them to do (make sure all properties that require a license, have one, and the only way to do that is to ask unlicensed properties their status).

I still remember (vaguely) back when the government gave the job to the post office, and suspect the only reason the government doesn't do it themselves is probably so they can stand back and deflect any criticism onto the people they've decided should deal with it.

I love the freeloaders on these threads. Don't pay to watch TV don't pay for films or music. How do you think all these things are provided - the tooth fairy?

If people don't actually need a TV license because they don't watch or record live TV, then they shouldn't be paying for one. If people do watch or record live TV then they should be paying for one.

What is your point here? Nowhere does it say here that people want to not pay for a TV license and also freeload watching live TV.

BS anyhow, they started to letter me after 6 months not 2 years.

Best option is to 100% ignore them, not play games.

I come home and I see a letter from them it goes immediately unopened in my shredder behind the door, no real hassle to me as other unopened junkmail goes in along with it. :)

I do not need to tell the BBC anything, they should not assume I watch live TV same as I do not assume everyone plays PC games.

The DVLA/police do not even bother you this much about a car or lack of car (just in case I have bought another car and am driving it illegally).

That's commercial companies for you though, charge as much as they possibly can (and then charge again if you want to watch it on a second set, or record it easily).

It makes laugh a bit that some idiot government minister decided to freeze the TVL for several years to "help people afford TV", and at the same time all the commercial subscription services are increasing their prices at far above inflation.

How can they assume that everyone is guilty? Even after telling them that I don't have a TV, to the guy at the door, they still refuse to believe me. They are calling me a thief, a criminal, with no evidence. Why should i now allow them to search my house to prove my innocence? There is nothing that says that everyone watches TV. There are many people that do not watch TV. It is not my problem that they want tao collect tv license and it is not my problem that some people don't want to pay. Why should i be harassed and required to sign a contract with the tvl if i don't own a tv. My main problem with the tvl.
