What have you done to your car today?

Put in a new dome light lens to cover my hilariously bright LED bulb I put in, it looks fantastic but it's like a spot light.

Yesterday a rattle/squeak emerged within the cab... can't find it to save my life.

Next up, paint the front bumper as it's chipped away

Ahh - how old is the wing though? You'd hate to get the work done, then look at it after winter and the lip is starting to go

Oh the wing is about 3 years old, the rust is from stone chips so something that can be easily sorted according to the body shop.

Last night I:

- Cleaned out the interior
- Pumped up the tyres
- Cleaned the windscreen
- Topped up the oil, coolant, washer fluid, and petrol
- Disconnected the ash-tray light as it is always open and it was annoying (12V socket always in use)

Today I lugged 4 people, a boot stuffed full of luggage, and more luggage overflowing onto the people on the back seats, to Reading for the festival, and came home again. About 200 miles in total thanks to parts of the A23 & M23 being closed.

I must say that it wasn't a fun trip... The car felt ridiculously heavy and acceleration from the 54HP motor was unsurprisingly pitiful with all those people and all that stuff on board. Felt like I was driving a 2CV! The road noise was also horrendous thanks to my truly god awful tyres.

New tyres on order. Replacing a trashed Jinyu, a trashed Wanli, and two half worn & rock solid Event tyres with a set of Continental Premium Contact 2's. Hoping that the difference will be night and day. :)

Premium contact 2's are old are they not?

Not really, but they aren't a brand new design either. I have a budget to adhere to and they are £39 a corner online, can't get anything much better without spending substantially more. They will be a tonne better than what I have currently. They still get good reviews, and the efficiency/grip/noise ratings are good all round for the price. :)

Seem to have lots of awards and recommendations from 2010/11.

Then after finished building back up my replacement turbo. Should hopefully be going on this weekend along with new injectors.

Put two long surface scratches right down the side... Again.
And it wasn't really my fault... Again.

FFS :(

Turned off of a main road into a one way narrow road which takes you down to the back of town, there were two lorries parked half in the hedge, right in the way, and enough road to creep past on the other side. "No problem!" you may be thinking. Well it was 50% covered with overgrown brambles. I was already running a little late, and my options were to try and persuade the drivers of two lorries to back down the road, or to go through it...

Felt sorry for the guy behind me though, in a 2013 Merc. He did get out and have a word. Not sure what happened after that as I lost him in my mirror. He probably refused to go through. Good on him. :p

Good job my paintwork is utter crap already, and a bit of a rub and polish will sort them.

Makes me wonder what I would have done if I had a nice car... What if the people in charge of the lorries weren't around?

Replaced my popped tyre (1cm vertical split in the sidewall, almost like a knife), washed it and fuelled it ready for the craziness of the UK's roads on a Bank Holiday weekend!

Spring for my Dads Megane arrived today (finally!) ordered x2 so refreshed both sides with new mounts etc. Sore hands and sliced up knuckles but it's all back together and now the car's super silent again on our bumpy roads :)

+ Washed and waxed the Celica, really want the OEM spoiler but can't justify the prices people currently charge, hmm!

Yesterday took my car for it's second service at Abbey Motorsport in Oxted, Surrey. Great bunch of guys, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the car. Swapped out the gearbox/differential oils while we there...even got tea and toast when I arrived! Will definitely be going back to them for my next service, would recommend to anyone :)

Treated Puma to new rear lights as mine were fogging up. Quite pleased that the bodywork beneath was in real good nick! Much better and cost me a tenner! Bargain....

While I replaced most serviceable parts under the bonnet for my little Jazz when I first got the little fella it dawned on me that I never bothered to check the pollen filter. Thing looked disgusting to say the least, surprised it didn't stink up the car as it was almost completely black! Popped into ECP who then gave me the wrong filter for a Micra, went back and just handed my dirty filter in so they could check the fit and they came back with the most expensive Mann one so little win for me!

Dropped my lotus excel off at pnm engineering this morning for the following jobs

engine out
bearing shells
head off/ported and flowed along with inlet manifold
continue the fuel injection conversion (had it converted to mapped ignition earlier on this year)
lightened flywheel
maybe new clutch, the one in atm has only 20-30k on it so we will see how much life is left in it as its an engine out job to do
upgraded brakes (310mm discs and 4pot calipers)
and a pile of smaller stuff

I was going to replace petrol tank with an alloy one but the original isn't that heavy and I could do with keeping the weight in the boot

anyway car will be gone for a few weeks

target of 200bhp per tonne or as close as

Fitted my replica VW Projector headlights today with 6000K HID's. Can't tell the difference between these and the genuine ones, spot on!

It was standard on all OEM's as far as im aware, even on some of the earlier golfs as well. Ironically they were only an option on the GTI and GT models I think. Wasn't available as an option on my r-line when I ordered it.

Spent most of yesterday with the engine bay in bits trying to hunt down the source of a creak that I've been trying to sort for ages - wipers off, leaf screen off, metal panel under this also removed, then out with the battery and battery box. Couldn't find anything in the area of the brake module etc but under the leafscreen panels there was a potential where a cable for the heated screen dropped through a hole in the body so put a load of foam round everything I could. Got caught in a few heavy showers and the engine bay got soaked at one point :(

In theory putting everything back together should have been a straight forward job but the Focus has a strip which clips along the bottom of the windscreen which the leafscreen/plenum then clips into. After being removed a few times this strip doesn't retain very well and when you try to clip the leafscreen into it it feels like it's not clipping in properly but in fact it's pushing the strip away from the bottom of the screen. Eventually sussed a way to get round this, by fitting the strip under the leafscreen first then fitting the whole lot to the car in one go.

Moving onto today I gave the car a well needed wash, cleaned up the engine bay, put some tyre gel on, polished out a couple of light scratches, and polished the tailpipes.

Then it rained as I drove into town and I got pooh-bombed by a seagull too

I think the play in the shaft in my old turbo is perhaps a little out of tolerance?!

It was smokey and didn't sound good that's for sure!

Anyway, finished fitting the new one today.

Not really much you can see of the turbo, but I do love the tubular manifold! :D

It goes well now, GT28RS :)
