GD judgement: is this moral/immoral, legal/illegal

Thing is if your friend got away with it twice I wonder how many others did over the course of the festival from that seller.

A few times I've realised I've left somewhere without paying for something. I've always gone back and paid. Eating then leaving without paying is morally wrong.

These were takeaways, where the transaction finishes when they hand over the food and move on to the next customer.

In a restaurant, there's a level of trust from the retailer that you stay and pay after your meal: that definitely seems a bigger moral obligation to me.

I assume that it was a fast food place and he was handed his food and then left with it. Rather than a sit down place where he eats and doesnt pay the bill.

As your friend knew that he should have paid and didn't these could be offences of "making off without payment", s.3 Theft Act 1978.

This covers offences such as leaving a restaurant or hotel without paying, not paying a taxi fare and filling up with petrol and driving off.

It's not as immoral/illegal as the people who go to the bars order a big round wait till it's all been placed on the bar and then say oh by the way can I have a jd and coke or something then as soon as the servers back is turned they leg it with the drinks.
I have been known to hop the bar and chase them down if I'm having a really bad day!

Happened to me at Glasto however I fessed up and told the lady she hadn't charged me!

Could have saved myself a fiver on a smoothie though and i'm not sure why I did fess up to be honest as normally i'd have just gone on my merry way happy that i'd saved some dosh!

As this is a festival, it depends on how drunk I am.
Sober I'd try to pay after they forget. If I'm very drunk I'll probably try to get another for free.
