FAO Fox: Buying a E39 530i Sport

I did some research into the Smart ages ago, I can't remember the specifics but I concluded it had great potential but turned out to be crap.

The issue for me is that they dont look OEM. I just hate visible aftermarket add-ons in anything to the point where i would just leave the crap old stuff in there if the OEM look units didnt exist.

The dynavin even turns its illuminations (which match the BMW orange perfectly) on and off with the lights and dims its screen etc as if it were oem.

This thread is making me want to buy one. There is a nice one nearby but it has black bumper strips etc. Which makes it look kinda dated.

2001 , SILVER, A SUPERB CLEAN EXAMPLE, 1 LADY OWNER FROM NEW WITH FULL COMPREHENSIVE SERVICE HISTORY, 3 months warranty, Next MOT due 14/05/2015, Automatic air conditioning, Auto speed hold, Parktronic system, M style 17" light alloys,

112k on it. for £2900

Tempting!

MOT passed today. No advisories. Pleased with that.

Barry, those wheels look genuine to me, perhaps ask the seller for photos of the inside of the wheel?

Thanks Chris. Seller's sent me a pic of the rear which has a stamp and serial number. So far so good. Just sent it to you via text. LMK what you think.

Edit/ Good to hear it flew through MOT :)

Thanks chaps. They polish up really well and certainly 'bring out the best in the E39' - if that makes sense. Pleased I held out for the right set.

Quick question re pads. I have Pagid brake pads throughout but I've noticed that they produce an inordinate amount of brake dust. Any quality alternatives?

The Old Colonel evidently has the right trade contacts. Irrespective of the bonkers asking price, this example is remarkable.

Agree it is bonkers isn't it.

Why would anyone spend 12k on a 12 year old BMW that's based on an 18 year old design. I know the E39 is often regarded as the last really well built car from BMW but compared to an F10 they really do look their age now.

Generally speaking if you can't afford an F series BMW you can't afford the running costs involved in owning a BMW (unless you can do a lot of the servicing and maintenance yourself).
