download the updater application and run it it will reboot your PC flash the firmware and reboot your PC if you have two drives it will do both or one if the other is already done.
The bit that worries me about doing this is this on the site :
"WARNING: The firmware update process is done entirely at your own risk. Before initiating the update process be sure to backup or make copies of all important files. If the firmware process is interrupted your solid-state drive may not function properly."
Define massive. I've got a 128GB M4 that's half full & on fairly acient firmware and I can't say that I've noticed any performance degradation in the time that I've had it.
Couldn't get the Windows installer to detect my drive, had to use the bootable disk method. Pretty sure it did work when I updated it last time however...
Went from 000F on my 64GB M4. Might've been because I got the smallest, but I don't see much difference:
On the other hand I found a screenshot of an older benchmark I did back in June 2011, read speed was only up to 450MB, so I guess even after 3 years this M4 is still very snappy.
SSDLife says drive is 97% health but the expected lifetime seems to have went up by a couple of years compared to when I checked about a month after I got the drive...
If the above doesn't work you could always try an RMA, best RMA experience i've had was with my M4. 3 working days from sending it i had a replacement in my hands. Although, i didn't brick mine with a firmware update
We'll it is back up and running. Not really sure how. I was so annoyed I just left my PC running with a black screen and went downstairs for a couple of hours. Just came back up and was faced with the Win8 log in screen. Just rebooted again and it appears to be working fine.
