What Windows 8 Apps Do You Use On PC?

Why would I bother? The thread is about whether I use Metro apps or not, and I said I don't because I would much rather have web services sit in browser tabs and be able to treat them as windows.

I don't need to defend this decision, I explained my choices only to be told quite aggressively by yourself that I am wrong. You care far too much about whether people use Metro apps.

yes you do you said it was crap and then said website version of Netflix was the same. lets just see how wrong you were.

lets see how few films are showen on the website, lets also notice how large the tiles are, which is appearently bad for keyboard and mouse according to you lot.

lets compare that to the massive amount of films shown on the app, and the size of the times veing smaller, which apparently is better for k+m

then lets look at how poor the website shows series, and how it does not tell you want format is viewable.

then lets look at app, that shows its in superHD, as well as much better UI

I can easily show why a number off other apps have a much better UI. I can also easily show how several apps, benefit from live tiles and notifications. Which make them far better than the website versions.

Lol, as it has nothing to do with personal preference, app is clearly hands down winner at UI, and even by your own definition, better for k+m.

Can't admit you are wrong.

Even if there are a couple of half decent apps it doesn't take away from the fact that the majority are pap and that the whole split screen interface system is clumsy.

It makes zero difference, as most websites are crape, does that make no website worth using? You should use the best option, which is quite clearly a mix off all 3 options, apps, desktop software and websites. Depending on what it is, what the UI is and if it benefits from live tiles/notifications.

People keep saying most apps are pap, it makes zero difference, you aren't forced to use all apps. just like you aren't forced to use all websites or all desktop software.

The split screen system is far from clumsy. It's super easy and super fast. It's by far the easiest option.

Whether I would rather use an app or a website really is down to personal preference. You prefer the way the Netflix app works because it shows you the quality of the video and it shows the series differently. I prefer the website because I can browse it in a window and I like seeing why certain recommendations are being made.

If it makes you feel better then yes I am totally wrong and you just won an internet argument.

I suspect that very few people even know about let alone use apps. Be interesting to see some figures but I've not come across any.

And I don't agree at all with the split screen thing being usable, it's clunky and restrictive.

I just can't see why there is a need for desktop programs and apps, it's just a mess.

People know about them, but I expect few people use them, due to comments seen in this thread, where people really are clueless and won't accept some apps are the best option.

As for split screen it's a extremely easy feature to use, and something I use every week, when copying one thing to another, usually some in for from PDF to excel. It is far easier than the split on the desktop and far more adjustable. And a thousand times easier than resizing windows. Although resizing windows is good sometimes when you want more control.

Why is there a need, because desktop software is not set up for modern day age, which is always on internet connection, and it really isn't a mess, it could be better, but it isn't a mess.
Unless syou run outlook/thunderbird, you should be using mail app. Nit only do you nit have to refresh several web paged emails, you get notifications (if you want them) and live tile. do you don't even need to refresh to see if you have mail. That's if you can even log into several emails at the same time, which you can't do if you have the same service, but several email addresses.

Things like eBay app is rubbish and I use the website, however I still have eBay app installed and logged in, to make use of the notification pop ups, so it notifies me when something i'm watching is about to end so I don't forget.

Things like news apps, general make more sense than websites. As you cam customise it, if you use an rss reader then this might be redundant.

Package tracker is a great app, granted Most people might not need it, but Ai order basically everything online. Not only fo Ai not need to go to a website and keeo finding the tracking number. The live tile as updates, when ever the package is tracked.

Again it's about using the best tool for the job, dismissing apps with out thinking about them really is limiting your experience needlessly.

Same token there's plenty which apps are crape for and I switch to desktop, which again is a single and instant key press.

So do you think ahead of time that you want to open that PDF in a Metro app, or do you have a Metro app set as your default PDF viewer?

I think that explains a lot. I would never want a PDF to launch fullscreen. If you're OK with that then it follows that you don't hate the app concept on a desktop.

Also what year is it where you are that you need to refresh websites to get message counts to update? My webmail accounts are capable of desktop notifications, alerting me via tab title changes, playing notification sounds etc.

mail - twitter - facebook - bing news - bing finance - bing sport - flipboard - podcasts - flixter - ted - vimeo - metrotube - nextgen reader - xbox music - here maps - reddhub - tunein - onedrive and some games

so yes I use modern apps on my desktop and I love them <3

Gotta love modern web apps and browsers.

Mail, Weather and Games are great apps to have as standard, load quickly and are super useful. Music is quite good, but I have been using Media Player more.

Steam Tile add's live tiles of the games I want pinned, switching to show me achievements and hours played, looks great and quick to launch games.

I can't remember the others I use! :p

UPDATE:

This is my start menu & Chrome to carry on the theme:

I'd rather not have a start menu again!
