New York

From JFK to NY is fixed priced in a cab now, $56 I think which is the simplest.

Yeah, it's just a short, sometimes long queue outside the airport for the yellow taxi, Fairly quick though.

don't bother getting any other form of taxi offered to you as they are often dearer or a mini bus which ends up dropping off other people at hotels on route making your journey a lot longer.

I believe minimum is 6 months yes. When I go my old passport would've only had 3 months so I've just sorted a new one.

Don't forget to sort your ESTA :)

Just to hijack the thread a little does anyone have any recommendations on booking transfers to and from JFK?

Just get a train, quick and cheap. The free shuttle runs to Jamaica station where you can take Long Island Railroad to Manhattan.

Oh I agree, that's why I had a driver and a brand new S Class

'Bit' more than $56 mind :p

JFK is a horrendous airport, as long as you brace yourself and have 0 positive expectations you will be fine. Took me 2.5 hours to clear security but luckily my bag was waiting for you.

Why have you typed like?

Regional dialect and well known.

Saw the offer for Genoa flights, but they're about that price normally.

Anyone know any deals and good European places to visit in like march ish time. Things to do when the weather isn't so great,

I've just been through LAX so I'm guessing it's going to be very similar - 2 hours to clear security.

I put it all on a credit card, that's free isn't it?

Yeah, they only sometimes ask you to pay your CC I heard.

Jersey City is a bit far for what I want, good price though.

Yeah, I had a look and it's a 15-20 minute train journey to the WTC station, which is fine for me.

What swung it was it looks amazing for the price, the decent view from the room and we'll sleep there and that's it. We'll get up, have some breakfast and then get a 9-10am train to Manhattan and then just get a train back at about midnight and repeat.

This time I flew via Ireland, cleared it Dublin and landed as a domestic arrival in the USA, it was blissful :D

I've read about that, do you not just end up spending the same amount of time though as surely you have to land in Dublin, get off the plane, clear security, get on the plane and take off again. Does the whole stop over not add more than 2 hours anyway?

It does, yes. I didn't pick it for pre clearance it just ordered a better price and was a happy bonus that made up for the stopover time.

We are flying from Dublin too with Aer Lingus so will have our security checks before we land. No hassle of flying to Dublin getting off plane etc etc as bf is in Belfast so I'll be flying over to there first then we'll be heading to Dublin the next day.

Apparently bf read that Aer Lingus is the only airline that does security this end so that was handy they were cheapest too :D

I landed at like 2pm, think it took 45 min at immigration, wasn't too bad. I don't recall it took any long than any other countries. What took the longest was the drive back from
Manhattan to JKF, almost missed it.

Unless the service is rubbish at night I think I'll get the trains from JFK to Jersey City (land at 11pm Saturday NY time) and back (fly at 8:30pm Saturday NY time).

I'd go for a taxi or see if there's a shuttle bus service from the airport as you won't escape immigration until well after midnight. NYC is safe, but train service drops off to about once every 30 minutes in the small hours. JFK -> Jamaica Station -> Penn Station -> Jersey City could take a bloody long time unless the trains are scheduled for connecting passengers, which you can be sure they won't be.

And that's the end of that deal, was going to book it today as well :(

Anyone know of any dates still working, I'm pretty flexible with travelling dates.

Got back last Friday so I feel I should give you lot an update :)

Flight to JFK was with Delta which was much better than the virgin flight on the back to Heathrow. It took us 45mins to clear immigration, we opted for the shuttle bus which took almost 2 hours to get to our hotel in Manhattan due to traffic, it was roughly $23 each. I recommend taking the Metro if possible, faster and a lot cheaper.

We didn't know that the prices on show doesn't include tax so add 9% to the display price, food price is not too bad considering we had to look for places that provides gluten free alternatives. One place we really liked for lunch was Friedman's (adobo chicken salad), L'asso on Mott St had a decent lunch special where you get any 12" pizza and any salad for $20 or $25 for gluten free pizza. They also do 29" pizza for around $29

If want to buy clothes go to Macy's (that place is overwhelming) and get a visitors card for additional 10% off, but a lot of thing are excluded so check before hand.

If you are a fan of Friends and going soon there's a cafe that has been transformed to celebrate the 20th anniversary. You get free coffee and get to see of some of the original props including the orange couch in Central Perk.
