*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

What else is there with this game?

Is it the PvP stuff (that's called the crucible isn't it?) that's the draw to this?

I've literally not read anything about this game because I feel confused what it is, sell it to me.

What's the deal with looting with friends? Do you just redo certain missions with a group of friends? Then you just rinse repeat those Ad infinitum?

PVP, Strikes, Raid(s)

It's kind of like an MMO but with less content overall, in that you can finish the story but you still need to get to max level, find better gear etc

Hopefully the expansions add a decent amount of extra stuff to keep things fresh. I suspect a lot of people will get this expecting it to be a normal FPS but will be put off by the MMO elements. Some people just don't 'get' MMOs really and they will be the ones who don't get Destiny either.

This was the game that was going to make me buy a PS4.

I'm not so sure now reading comments from you guys. I thought this was going to be the holy grail.

Think I'll wait on some reviews - when is the embargo lifted?

This was going to be the first proper game I bought for a PS4....but after seeing some negative reviews....that fact that they even have a review embargo and that the game cost $390 million......yet most of that is spent on marketting rubbish, makes me hesitant to buy it.

I thought this was going to be the holy grail.

That was never going to happen!

I guess I'm more wary over this and totally in the dark about it because I got suckered into Titanfall big time and after 16 hours of playing it I never touched it again.

Same for me i am starting to feel disappointed, there is nothing else out there to justify a ps4 purchase atm everything i want to play runs better on the pc. MGS5 is a long time away still

All my gaming is presently on the Wii U. There's room under my TV and room in my life for a PS4 - I just need an irresistible excuse to send me over the edge - I thought Destiny was that excuse. I'm sad now - I was totally fired up for picking a bundle up on the way home.

I can see me waiting till Xmas now.

How many maps roughly for story mode?

I've been playing since 6am and I've only been on two maps, all earth missions are the same map just start at different points, moon maps same.

Then the main town map which is small.

There isn't a review embargo, the servers weren't actually live until yesterday so there was no way of giving access to the game early, especially considering that a lot of the focus is social aspects of the game.

Ok well thats fair enough, but considering the high cost to "make" people saying its boring on the 1st day is pretty poor (or at least sounds it) and that the 1st Xpac will be out in 3 months adding content, im just a bit hesitant that this is just another money grabber without any real substance....will wait for some more professional reviews.

I kid of got the impression from the beta it was a go here, kill some things, now go here and survive the wave of enemies, then go back to the base, now go to a different map and rinse repeat, I mean it may be fun with others for a while, but if they are just the same mission over and over again then that's just dull.

Guess it's just not for me.

No delivery for me today, Royal mail tracking says it only arrived in sorting office at 3:15pm.

Pray tell why preorder if its not to guarantee the item on/before launch day. sigh might go kill a hamster #firstworldproblems

olol

OCUK deems Destiny a failure on day 1 :D

For me, the pull is in the weapons/armor/loot. Diablo 3 is just the same maps over and over, except the differenct acts have different 'colours' (e.g. the swamp/night time act, the sand act, the snow act etc) and I have sunk many hours on different platforms into that game.

I just see Destiny as a first person style futuristic Diablo game.

I'd imagine a lot of COD players are coming and thinking, wait where are my kill streaks  why is there no kill cam?!

I've had a couple of friends who pre ordered this say that they loved playing the early access (beta whatever) and that it's fantastic, however, they are alone in thinking it's brilliant :(.

I'll wait for a couple of reviewers that I like to comment, but I'm pleased I cancelled my pre order for the collectors edition thingy.

Well i don't think people who are already claiming to be bored have played enough yet, but I personally can see two groups of people who will be disappointed in this game.

The people who are looking for the usual FPS experience with a decent story mode/campaign.

The people who are looking for a full on MMO with lots and lots of end game content.

Destiny is somewhere between them both, so doesn't do either particularly well when looking at them separately, but together they do work well, but only if you aren't expecting it to be massively one or the other.

That's how I see it anyway, Destiny is great for me as I don't have the time to sink into a fully fledged MMo these days, and I've never been fussed about console FPS campaigns, so Destiny works great for me by giving me a kind of watered down version of both!

Currently level 8 guess Ill finish story in a couple hours then. Game is alright nothing special, its not gonna last 10 years like they say:p
I haven't teamed up yet, im not sure how to do it tbh. But the game hasn't been exactly hard yet, ive played all the missions on hard but its still pretty easy.

There is plenty of missions it's just all on the same few maps so it all feels repetitive and tires quickly. It needs a lot more areas which is what will be coming in DLC form.

It feels like I have just paid to replay the Beta with a couple of extra maps and more weapons. I was expecting considerably more content tbh...

It did only cost me £25 in club card points so can't grumble too much and I sold the crappy headset to CEX for a tenner as well...

Thats what worries me about it.....how can something cost so much to develop and market, then be told it will last for the next 10 years and have such limited amount of content? (same maps over and over)

Agree with all of that. It's hard to say why but I feel that some people are playing it wrong. Or as you say they just don't 'get it'

Personally I love levelling and I love gear and stats, I don't mind grinding at all and I love PvP and PvE. I am so looking forward to seeing what endgame is like but I am also looking forward to levelling up all the three classes to get there.

Anyway fine if it isn't for some but I get what Bungie are trying to achieve here and I like it because it's my kind of thing.
