8TB Drives from Seagate coming soon. 20TB drives not that far off either

Hopefully we should have some samples of these 8TB drives in the next couple of weeks for us to play with and test. I will post benchmarks when I have them.

Also as soon as I have pricing and a leadtime on when stock will land with me I will let you know in this thread. The product code will be set up shortly.

They have also hinted at 10TB and also a 20TB drive in the pipeline. Just think of the storage opportunities in a 4 Bay NAS server. 80TB of storage. Not sure what you would have to put on it but it would be nice.

Seagate are also Launching some new NAS server Units, 2 Bay, 4Bay and 6Bay desktop units and a 8Bay Rackmount unit. Keep checking the forum for more news on these and product set ups. They did look stylish and compact and the new Seagate OS4 on them is very nice and user friendly.

8GB drives lol i remember when a couple of hundred megs was something to brag about :)

20TB drives, jeez that is a scary thought considering the vast majority of people will be running no more than 2TB of storage

I'd be worried about a failure with a disk that size, I'm already concerned with my 3TB drives :p

I wondered what the big hard drive companies were going to pull out of their backsides once SSDs started to close in on size/price. Guess this is it and I like it :)

20 MB, 5 1/5" Full height.. Neever fill that up either. No matter how big, disks fill up. 4 x 8 TB, RAID 5, that is a worthwhile update to my current mirrored 2TB on a Synology NAS.

As a new IT Manager in the Oil industry I remember ordering a PS/2 Model 30 with 30Mb HDD and 128K Ram. The 11" monochrome monitor pushed the price up to just under £5,000. I believe they included the keyboard.........

I think i'd be too scared of drives failing at that type of capacity. I'm sure people said the same thing when drives were a lot smaller than they are now but that's a LOT of data.

I had thought about doing a format on it and seeing how long it will take it for that to do. not on my machine but on the test rig. I will post the time if we do it.

We are looking to offer SRS which is the Seagate recovery service. They can get your data back 95% of the time. Will let you know more about that soon as well. Not just for Seagate drives either.

I'd better start stocking up on DVDs so I can back one of these drives up. Might have to book a week off work to do it though :/
