Just a small warning for people on forums.
Like One year ago my mate got himself xspc WC kit. And he decided to use Mayhems Black Oil Pastel coolant. All would be fine i think BUT he have not removed pressure plate from raystorm block.
Last month he called me and said.... ZEED come to Birmingham over when you have some time cause my WC kit is ****ed and does not work at all like I think it is blocked.

As I clean my waterblock each time I change coolant and hes bit of an WC noob i decided to sort him out this weekend as i was passing by.

I drained the system and noticed i cant push the coolant out even with my full power blow in the pipe. So i took CPU block apart and this is what i saw:

took everything appart and stuck metal bits in 10% vinegear for 2 hours.

And i went 50/50 water in radiator just for one hour

Lesson learned Take pressure plate out if You planning to use pastel coolant :).

Nice you helped him out but that was a serious amount of gunk lol, from the fluff on the rad and inside his machine your mate isn't big on cleaning his system lol :)

Black pastel wasn't the best at stability to be honest, and all pastel/aurora coolants are pH sensitive so I figure those two factors did a real job on that rig.

I used the same red pastel coolant from mayhems for nearly 2 years and it never looked like that lol. It did go a little pale after awhile but it didn't gunk up my system. That looked a total mess! lol

thats not pastel. sorry to say its a cheap tubing issue. The cooling kits use cheap tubing and you should replace it with some good stuff such as the Primochill Advance.

Old saying you get what you pay for ... and in this case he got what he paid for.

He's implying it would have happened regardless of what coolant was used, and that the dye used in pastel is IN NO WAY responsible.

it isnt,

read up about tubing plasticiser leaching.

there is more than enough information on this subject floating around the internet for people to understand it from a few google hits.

to summarise:
  • clean your rads out properly
  • use a plasticiser free tubing such as primochill

this way you wont have a problem with colour changes/plasticiser build up etc.

OcUK started listing Mayhems Pastel in April 2012.
I have a loop running pastel that has been in service for three months before that and has never been changed or maintained and it is still the same as the day I installed it.

The tell tail sign is that pastel is "White" the dyes are purple and yellow (to make black). So when pastel gets stuck in a crevice you'll see its white and the liquid is still black ...

Plasticizer turns black when its warmed up and sticks to parts. After a while it will harden up and become a "bi**h" to remove.

yeah it's definitely worth investing a few extra quid and getting some proper tubing. it'll be way more expensive if you fry a whole system

Im feeling generous...

If you replace the users tubing (make him buy it and show me the receipt) with decent tubing by primochill ill replace his fluids free of charge under warranty. How ever if you keep on using the same tubing there is no point us replacing it.

Hows that sound !!!

Yet another example of great customer service. Kudos, Mick! I can't do much here but will remember to rep you on OCN at least (geggeg here).

Youll need to send me a email via "michael at mayhems dot co dot uk" with the information inc delivery address. Ill sort it out once you send me that info.

Mick

Man, that's awesome.

I just recently bought some Mayhems UV Red and Primochill Advanced LRT for my first water-cooled rig, but at least I know I'm in safe hands!

Btw, can anyone recommend the best LED UV lights to choose?

Wow ....

Suggestion for Rich and Mick: Next time you run the watercooling workshop drag these pictures out to show why cheap tubing is a bad idea. So glad I listened to the advice on that day.
