ISIS and Islamic militants - discussion

Umm has Russia not got a point here? Surely the US cannot just go bombing rebels in another country without the approval of the government in place, when they are not actually fighting that country per-say? I would definitely class that as an act of aggression.

The West is always going on about sovereignty of state and then Obama goes and says something like this. How the government got there is not the issue here; deal with IS then worry about the Syrian government afterwards with what ever economic pressures or not. If they are not willing to work with the installed government, then they should not be doing anything there at all.

The fact that he is contemplating helping some of the rebels who are not organized at all and are Islamist anyway is just crazy.

I think he has misjudged going from non-aggressive to the opposite and over-cooked the 'aggressive' bit

Isn't that more or less exactly what Russia has been doing in Ukraine?

Maybe Obama should try a Russian style Big Lie - "No it wasn't US F15s that bombed IS in Syria, the Free Syrian Army acquired that capability on the open market".

This is ture. In the case of Syria the Russians are partly to blame for the current situation. It was Russia and China that vetoed the UN efforts to stop Bashar al-Assad killing his own people during the arab spring protests. Said protests start as peaceful like most of the arab spring ones but was ment by troops shooting on protesters with APC's and what not. And the rest sadly is history.

But none of that means Obama can do what he has proposed. He then can be 'perceived' as being as bad as the rest; it will only feed into propaganda campaigns. Nothing good can come from this.

He wants to deal with IS in Syria he will have to do it with the installed government who is also fighting IS. What he is saying can only be perceived as open aggression.

He wants to deal with those who threaten the US; Syria do not. IS do. Simples.

I just wish someone would do something, I read somewhere it would only take a matter of hours to wipe IS out.

Isn't this a bit like Russia bombing the UK to wipe out the IRA, surely the country getting bombed should have a say.

Where does one draw the line between humanitarianism and military aggression? I don't think it is that difficult, it is just that the western propaganda is very good so people always think that military action is humanitarian. That is probably why russian PR put out the message that it would be an act of aggression. The western media has convinced everyone by saying that they are decapitating people, which they may very well be doing. I didn't see them wanting to go in Liberia when they were getting slaughtered in a brutal civil war. Why is that region so special? Is it realy that they want to protect the people, were they not just bombing these same people 10 years ago, the ones they are now wanting to protect from ISIS? or was it that they were bombing ISIS in 03? i thought that they were bombing kurds and that is who is now getting decapitated? can anyone confirm? I guess they want to catch it before it expands but where do you draw the line with that sort of activity, who decides then what is allowed and what not? What is then stopping russia from going in to ukraine under the same justification?

This is a much better approach, organisations that have an interest exploiting that region should work together with the military under the un to protect the operations.

Utter, utter *****!!!!

I can't even put into words on a family forum exactly what I think of these people. Hope this new coalition burns them all.

Disgusting. Made even worse by the fact he was an aid worker too. I am not a religious person but if there is a God then I hope these people have to answer for their actions.
