Apple's marketing strategy

Never really got this one's easier than the other thing. I'm sure people could argue having their apps in front of them is easier to use than having to go in to an app drawer but it's one extra click and the majority of cross platform apps now work identically.

I have had Apple 3s first and last! Apple product I have owned. I have had a Galaxy s2 and now on s4.

Its just a bloody phone, I can do what I like with android but Apple!

So why call people sheep? Are you not a sheep by your very definition by buying two Samsung Android products in a row?

There are plenty of reasons to buy a non Android phone, including the fact there are phones for people who don't want to fiddle. While Android is getting better after 18 months with a an HTC One I long for the day where I can have a phone that doesn't slow down over time, is more intuitive to use and is more like the WP I had...

Different strokes for different folk.

On the other hand the people that just buy the next thing, whether it be an Apple or Samsung product should perhaps think about spicing up their lives a bit. Yes, routine is safe, it's not exciting though... ;)

The way I see it.

Apple phones are for people that just want a smart phone and is easy to use.
Android is for those that want to do more with their smart phone and customize it how they like.

Apple are one of the greatest reinventors of our time and have an excellent PR/Marketing department that know how to create some epic hype trains that bring their customer base back time and time again.

If Apple is all about hype and marketing, why do they have so many repeat customers? Apple users are far more loyal, on average, than general smartphone users.

Are you judging the loyalty based on OS or based on phone brand? With apple products they are both one and the same, With others they are not. Android currently has the larger market share of mobile devices but that is split across multiple phone types/companys.

Oh this again... Hmmm:

"Apple are a recipe company and an advertising company, they don't make anything new and just borrow, steal then threaten to get what they want"

"I've even stopped eating apples just in case i take a bite then get sued by apple for stealing their logo"

Not a fan of Apple here unfortunately. Oh and btw the above is pretty much true that Apple since SW departure haven't really invented a single thing that isn't already based on some level of tech (hardware not software).

What amazes me is how come apple don't get kaplooeyed by the European Commission on competition as they completely monopolize their product. Microsoft did this and they get hit with some of the biggedt fines in history. It really is a poison product Imo but... Each to their own...

People want to take their phone from the box, set it up and go. Almost every app for iOS is familiar and easy to use because they all follow the same design. I'd say that out of my friends that I stay in touch with (read: Get drunk with), only I would sit tweaking settings or messing about with the device. Hence, i'm the only one with an Android and that is soon to get replaced. Not a single other phone type either.

It's what people want. Apple's ad department are excellent at their jobs, but so is their design department. Of course they're adding a big wedge to the price for brand, but that's something that I am prepared to pay - along with many others - as long as it isn't too excessive.

Adroid/Windows phones and apps are just as easy to use as Apple's.

"It just works." is a slogan, nothing else. They all "just work".

Imho it's a bit weird that people group themselves in regard to what phone os they use, even weirder that they then ascribe negative traits to the users of other phone os.

At the moment I'm not a sheep but if the iphone 6 had had a better screen to bezel ratio or had comfortably beaten the s5 in benchmarks I would have bought the 6 and suddenly become a fool or a sheep.

On the otherside of the coin i suddenly stay as a poor cheapass who doesn't understand style or apreciate class because i choose to buy a £550 samsung phone, i spend a couple of thousand quid every 2 years on phones because i buy 4 the difference would be negligible if i bought apples.

Android has come on leaps and bounds since 2011 and this scrap is unnecessary, dislike the firms not the people who buy off them.

:/

Such strong hatred for something you don't have to buy/use.

You think it is 'pretty much true' that Apple will sue someone for eating an apple. See, this is the type of thing that gets (some of) the Apple user base backs up. I couldn't care less about your very colourful view, but you are the type of person that starts fanboism and flame wars off.

How can a company completely monopolise it's own product? Surely every company that has ever existed does that by their very nature?

The EC came down on Microsoft for monopolising an industry. Completely different.

On the car analogy, a better one would be a Skoda Fabia, Seat Leon, VW Golf and Audi A3. Take the body panels off and they are the same car underneath so why is the Audi so much more expensive than the Skoda? The Audi is (I assume) going to use better materials in the cabin but I do not believe that this comes anywhere near to account for the price difference. The reality is you are simply paying for the brand. That is no more true of Apple against every other phone manufacturer.

a lot of the BS around people buying iphones mostly falls under pot, kettle, black. Why is it so difficult to accept that people have difference tastes and different requirements for what their mobile phone does. Depending on those two factors means some people prefer iphones, other andriod phones.

"It just works." is a slogan, nothing else. They all "just work".

It's the whole ecosystem that "just works", especially when OS X Yosemite comes out and Handoff / Continuity is enabled.

I have an iPad, iPhone and a couple of Macs and they really do "just work" and "just work" together. I work in IT as my day job and don't want computers or phones to tinker with at home. They're a tool, Apple gear works best for me. Others may not find that the case but increasingly those less comfortable with computers (my father and father in law included) are turning to Apple devices (iPads mostly in my experience) so they're doing something right.

Ok then explain to your father/grandfather that they have to delete their videos/photos/music to install a 1gb update because the installer needs 6gb. Alternatively, they can just use iTunes so explain what that is and how to use it.

"Just works" is a myth, iOS is just as buggy as other operating systems, it has had its fair share of monumental mess ups (Apple maps, this latest update etc.), it's just as vulnerable to hacks, exploits and malware.

If Apple is doing something right, it's marketing. Considering all other aspects, they're doing as good as the next door competitor.

And yet, Apple is consistently ranked top for customer satisfaction.

It can't all be marketing. People often have to live with these devices for two years or more.

The difference between Apple and Samsung in terms of satisfaction, according to your link, is between 0.04% and 1.5%. Do you believe that better marketing can not explain such a small difference?

I'm not saying Apple products are bad, they are great, they're the best money can buy. But so are many Samsung products, HTC, LG etc.
