What are peoples opinion on this model?

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/ftx-van...ss-buggy-rtr-waterproof/rc-car-products/40388.

Its quite a bit above my budget at the minute though.

I have that exact car and I can tell you somthing for the money I think its a bloomin bargain.

I needed to upgrade the front thingy that the suspension connects to for a upgraded carbon fibre one that was £20 but thats all.

It is rapid, to fast almost, good fun on grass and stuff and it quite robust.

haha - now I'm looking to buy one :D wife is going to kill me :(

Electric rc has come a hell of a long way. But to me nothing beats the nitro engines, the noise, the smell! Plus it takes a bit of skill to get it right. That's half the fun to me, getting a good tune.

I spent about £250 on one and smashed it up on my first outing with it. They're really not made for flying through the air.

Parts are surprisingly cheap though. Mine needed a lot of them.

They really are, you just need to know how to control them and set them up to do it. Not just smash em off a ramp on the first outing :)

Hoping to get a test drive soon of a nitro car, probably the HPI 4.6 truggy. But not sure about the small body & large wheels look and the Fiesta WRC WR8 appeals apart from the gawdy Ken Block colours it comes in now :(

And still on the fence for flux vs nitro - it appeals to me not having to run engines in, tweek mixtures and clean oily gunge off everything to keep the car at it's best and annoying the neighbours with the noise if I run it at home.

But on the other hand I'm told once you add the price of decent batteries to a flux version you'll have added maybe £125. Don't know how that compares to the price of nitro fuel.

I have a couple of nitros, Schumacher XTR and an HPI Savage X. Both are in sorry states as they haven't been run in a few years and the Savage X had a run in with a kerb when I was tuning it, wiping out the front, bending one of the chassis parts and shearing bolts on the other side... Cars don't run well when the front axle is at right angles to the rear! That was about 4 years ago...

It'll be interesting to see if I can get them running again as I didn't clean them out before storing them, the fuel tanks are full of oil and I'm guessing the engines are too... I'm also hoping I can get the parts I need for the Savage now as well.

What sort of battery life do the electrics get now? When I got the Savage they had abysmal life,I'd probably have needed about 10 batteries to last an hour of fun, rather than just refilling the tank in 30 seconds with nitro. An easy setup electric one would be good of they've sorted that out.

Dived in at the deep end now and picked this up mid week

Got it off a mate still brand new in the box, being a US version it came with a few more accessories then usual. Purchase was followed by a crash course in how to look after the little beastie. Have just run it stationary for 2 tanks of fuel so far, today's plan to pick up more fuel after work was kyboshed by a nasty stomach bug :(

Opinions so far is that it's a noisy little begger and it keeps weeing oil out of the exhaust!

I like that a lot :)

2 tanks is plenty stationary.

I think with mine I did half a tank on idle, following half 1/4 throttle. Then work up though about 4 tanks to WOT.

Oil out the exhaust means it's running rich, which is standard from the factory. As you run it in more you eventually lean it out :)

Cheers for the advice. Managed to take it out on a bit of private road today and went through a few more tanks gradually building up the revs in short bursts at first then longer ones.

Wasn't the cleanest bit of road to use and the driver was a bit of a novice too so it's got that authentic 'used' look to it now. Seems to really howl once you let it rip and stops almost instantly

Will keep an eye on how it runs and try leaning it off a little bit, when I popped into the shop today where it was originally bought from they said it wasn't crucial but it was advised on the hpi DVD which came with it.

I'd advise getting an infrared thermometer to monitor engine temps once you're tuning it up. Depends on the engine but most like to be around 200-230(f). The leaner you go the more power, but it will get hotter. So it's the right balance of temperature and performance you're after.

Infrared thermometer is on the shopping list.

Did have a look for one today while hunting in Homebase for a decent toolbox to carry it in. Maplin list one but didn't have time to go there so may take a trip there tomorrow or grab a cheepie off ebay.
