Controversial anti-Islam adverts to run on New York buses

Well the transport company will have to pay tax on the profits contributing to the "islamic terrorist funds" aka aid.

Wonder if she's worked that one out yet...

Do adverts on buses make people think differently about important issues?

I imagine most people will look at it and either already agree, or disagree, but it won't really persuade anyone.

Represents some views held by Muslims, and not necessarily what Islam says.

Let's forget about politics, nationalism, history and all these little things that often have a big part to play in things like this and instead make it black and white.

That last poster is very deceptive.

Its simply rubbish. It's shows that Pamela and her group of activists are a bit simple. Let her waste her cash, she wants a reaction, simply don't give her one.

Ignore the ignorant...anything else just plays into their ideology.

well some people seem to think so

plenty of groups use adverts on buses to get their message across, usually rather less controversial ones in the UK thankfully - for example:

'some people are gay, get over it'

'there probably isn't a god now stop worrying and enjoy life'

etc..

The thing is though if you're like choudrey you stay just on the right side of the law however it's clearly hate speech yet we do nothing other than pay for his housing :(. We've then got the sharia gangs who got a slap on the wrist, black flags flying which clearly have an inflamatory message, someone handing out leaflets promoting the caliphate.

While it is "illegal" it's so rarely enforced we may as well not bother.

Then again this is only based on what I've read in papers so it's not like Id read any instances of it being enforced correctly.

I've gone to the trouble of finding a non-Daily Mail piece on him.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/07/anjem-choudary-islamic-state-isis

Not sure if he's just a joke figure or a genuine threat. But yes, he gets state benefits, whilst claiming to be "imprisoned" in the UK, and is totally against democracy and the rule of secular law.

Article alleges he has links with known terrorists, and is helping people leave to fight with ISIS.

Wonder what Castiel makes of him?

I don't believe him to be a threat but I'd bet good money on him inspiring genuine threats. Whether these threats would have come without his insights is still plausible.

Unquestionably. But we don't seem to have hate speech laws which can do anything about him. So he's free to attempt to radicalise people and turn them against us.

He's not very successful at it... aside from some nutters following the full retard version of Islam in and around Luton he's basically just a publicity seeking troll...

Thing is though he goes about it in a rather clever way he always insinuates his feelings rarely States them.

I mean things like his islamicemergencydefence website is borderline but not illegal. Once you start reading into it you get IED as the acronym clearly going to cause offense. Further reading into the site suggests reports of islamaphobia will be met with sharia law in kind.

Then he goes and hosts it in Iceland as he knows it would be taken down in any other country.

He has been prosecuted for unlawful demonstrations, however as a Solicitor he knows just where the line is between his freedom to express himself and inciting hatred.

Either way, despite what the daily Mirror might think, he is a fringe figure who very few take seriously.

Have you ever watched the youtube film called "what are we afraid of a 1400 year old secret? How can a book full of murder and hatred not be what Islam says? Islam is a book, If it is written then it is. Ignorance of that is basically reformation something Islam has yet to do i believe?

Look at it this way i never had any knowledge of Islam really. Im pretty tolerant, Yet this last 5 years there has been a ton of Islamic info going my way. At first i was not very interested but the more noise they made the more my interest perked. And ive probably spent a good 100 hours now reading different bits and watching different videos. And i can tell you that there isnt much out there that worries me as much as Islam.

I would like to ask the OP, What kind of effort he has made to look into his own claims? The same goes for everyone else we can link you to many facts and verses, But can you lot link us with some of these peaceful verses please? Something that shows tolerance to perhaps Hindu's? And on that subject does it not say in the book that Hindus and other people who are not Abramamic have no option to convert? And therefor must be murdered? Feel free to point out any errors. :)

I'm currently watching South Park series 1, ep 9 "Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo". I thought I'd leave these subtitled screencaps to lighten up the thread :-)

Though I am fervently anti Islamic extremism, these adverts just seem to be aimed at stirring up hatred so they should be banned without worrying about freedom of speech. Today's moderate is tomorrow's extremist is a bit 1930s Germany

No, I haven't seen it. To say Islam is a book is a bit ignorant and simplistic, and in the grand scheme of things, spending 100 hours readings 'bits' and watching different videos about Islam doesn't mean much. The source of that information is important.

The posters being used are deceptive in that while they aren't outright lies as such, they're way too simplistic and are aimed at people who I imagine are generally...ignorant.

I'm all for freedom of speech and fully support inter-faith dialogue and so on, but it's the equivalent of propaganda.
