*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

Right I am still new to this game, so can someone please explain something. The level system seems a bit wierd...?

For example, I started a new Warlock and at lvl 4 I was doing the patrol missions, which I love. The first quest I got it sent me to an area full of lvl 9 and 10s who were red to me and killed me easily. How is that level 4?

Also, why is it I often see high level players wandering around low level areas?

Loving the game though. Cheers.

This is one of the areas of the game where it deviates from a traditional MMO / RPG

There is no real zoning of appropriate levels within free roam. The only real guide would be that the further on in the single player campaign you go to that planet, the more difficult the average enemy is.

As a result earth is quite low level, moon slightly higher, venus even more so etc..

However, once you do a patrol mission on patrol ,it will send you everywhere on the map. The quests are not tied to your level - there are a bunch of missions in a pattern and they just rotate round - everybody gets the same patrol missions regardless of level.

Go to certain areas of the map during an event and you'll just get wiped out at anything less than rank 20, despite earth being a level 4 patrol.

This is so slow trying to get vanguard rep. I only have 550 and I have been grinding it for ages. I have 120 marks but my rep is still level 0.

that's because you're doing it wrong. Do the bounties every day you're on - and do them all. You can get 550 in one go with all the daily bounties. Go and do these on a patrol where you can take up patrol missions along the way that grant more marks and its very easy really.

Have you been doing the bounties? I have been picking the PvE and PvP ones that earn 100 rep each. Also doing the planet patrol missions gets you around 25 rep. If you combine the bounties with the patrol missions and some PvP it doesn't take so long to level the rep.

What is the best weapon damage to have? I've had a few drops that give me a weapon I already have, the only difference is one does arc damage, one does void damage, another does kinetic etc. Which weapon should I keep? Arc, void, kinetic or the other one I forgotten?

each weapon damage is colour coded to the colour of the shield of your enemy.

Hive Wizards & Centurions have a orange shield so need a fire damage weapon to effectively remove their shield.

Vex Praetorians have a purple shield so need void damage to remove.

Fallen Captains & Knights have a blue shield so need a weapon with arc damage to remove.

So ideally you want a matching set of all 3 that you can change between depending on what planet you intend on playing on.

Take off your faction class item ;)

or this lol. Never thought he might be wearing a faction class item.

I wouldn't mind trying it tonight, I've looked at the modifiers and they actually don't look that bad. Solar damage is boosted, im pretty sure the Vex boss doesn't cause that, the only thing you would have to watch out for is hobgoblins which judging from the colour of their projectile do solar damage and with a damage increase will probably one shot anyone. Melee damage on enemies is also boosted but the Vex aren't actually melee prone, you just have to make sure you keep distance from minotaurs which will probably also one shot you.

I think all vex use void shields(maybe harpies don't) so it wont be a repeat of last week where you need to have 3 different elements in active use all of the time.

By the way, I have just found that some of the guys with the shields don't "drop" them when I shoot them in the arm etc like they normally would. Is this a glitch or supposed to happen. Its the first time I have seen it and I would say 80% of them this game don't move the shields when hit on the body.

Make sure you are using the correct damage modifier for your opponent (see above) if you want to quickly take people's shields down.

Hey guys, got this a couple of days ago and really enjoying it so far. Now i've got a few questions though. I'm level 23 and want some better guns etc. I know i need vanguard marks and some rep in various areas but people have been telling me that the best way to do this is to do the weekly strike. I've had a look in my strikes list and theres 4 in there of various levels... are they the weekly strikes? It's gonna take years to do it through online rumble matches. :(

Depends, a strike can often take 20 mins to half an hour, and that will normally net you about 5 or 6 vanguard marks.

If you play 2 crucible matches in that time and win both, you could get 8 crucible marks.

Anyway, I think the easiest way to buy armor/weapons is using Motes of Light and Strange Coins when Xur (black market trader) appears at weekends

Yep really made Phalanx (sp?) annoying in the strikes with this on. They just keep advancing as you slowly shoot them in the fingers doing bugger all damage.
Just outflank them - pretty simple if you have the space, while one direct the way they are facing...

I think I understand what you are saying. You need a weapon with a higher impact to stagger them, it could be you are playing on a mission with a modifier that causes enemies to flinch much less frequently in which case theres not much you can do if you cant flank them. It's either that or it's an elite or boss of some kind.
