*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

I know that. However, I cannot adequately how bad I am at PVP. It's not just that I die a lot, I have no idea it's coming. I spawn and 'Boom' I'm dead.

Nothing makes me feel older than PVP. I just know that the person that just one shotted me is 12 years old. I used to be that young person killing the noobs. Now I am the noob.

You are a year younger than me (I was 45 on Sunday)! I have been doing OK lately in PvP. Last night I got 25 kills with a K/D of 2.5 and I got MVP - OK that doesn't happen all the time but you do get better the more you play it. Knowing the maps and reading the radar are essential. Oh and shotgun as secondary helps but you've got to be close to instakill. Melee more aswell - you'll be surprised how many times you come out of 1v1s on top (or you both melee and both die). I generally only play Control as I prefer 6v6 with objectives and I hate ffa so I stay away from that. Never played anything like Halo online before but this just feels right to me. Loving it in fact.

Anyone else keep getting errors? Its been fine untill now, level 25 and finally start getting decent stuff. Now i cant even finish a strike because of bee errors and bass error.

Ive only had 2 disconnects total, surprised how reliable the servers have been for me. One however was right at the end of strike

The only weird connection issue is occasionally I can't find other guardians and it stays on 1/12 for ever. If I close the app down and re-connect it finds them. Don't know what that is but it's happened once or twice. PvE has been solid for me though.

26 hours playtime.

Right I am still new to this game, so can someone please explain something. The level system seems a bit wierd...?

For example, I started a new Warlock and at lvl 4 I was doing the patrol missions, which I love. The first quest I got it sent me to an area full of lvl 9 and 10s who were red to me and killed me easily. How is that level 4?

Also, why is it I often see high level players wandering around low level areas?

Loving the game though. Cheers.

The patrol missions are not tuned to your level, they are the same for everyone regardless of level. Not sure how you ended up in a lvl 9-10 area tbh. Just stay near the starting area and you should be ok. There is barely any stuff over lvl 5 on Earth anyway unless you go really out of your way to find it. If you get a mission you can't do, just cancel it with touchpad->triangle and find another beacon.

You see high level players in low level areas because either a) they are hunting for public events, b) they are mass farming mobs for engrams (zzz), c) they are doing daily bounties or d) they are farming weapon upgrade resources e.g. spinmetal.

Being a high level doesn't improve you damage or armor vs low level mobs, in order to keep the playing field even, so a high level player can still play with a low level friend without hardcore carrying them.

Is it true the raid resets today so us from last night will have to start again on Thursday when we hit it next?

Yes, but we got 3/4 of the rewards and the whole point of the Monday raid was to squeeze in a run before it got reset ;D

Don't worry, it will be much faster from now on because everyone knows what to do.

Now you just have to worry about the last boss ;D

After 90 minutes (ish) in the lvl26 Epic Summoning Pits last night I am now the proud owner of a Thorn Exotic Handcannon!

It went surprisingly well up to Phogoth. We just couldn't deal with the Wizards fast enough thanks to there insane shields and limited ways of removing it without dying.

After a few deaths in the end we cleared the adds till the Wizards spawned and ran like hell out of the area and tried to kill things in the corridor. Eventually Xyor turned up and we managed to nuke the smeggar to oblivion.

RE: Patrols. You don't have the luxury of 'avoiding high level areas' if that happens to be where the patrol points you. The first patrol I ever did at level 4, picked it up at the start by some level 2s, it directed me to a cave in the Mothyards with a level 7 Captain in it I couldn't even scratch. Had the exact same thing happen a couple of days ago when I was messing around on a new character. This time though I just cleared out the 2 other spawns, ran around in circles till I mapped the area and ran off.

This is so slow trying to get vanguard rep. I only have 550 and I have been grinding it for ages. I have 120 marks but my rep is still level 0.

you get the most rep from completing daily bounties.
if you complete all the vanguard bounties in 1 day and still want to farm more rep, complete as many patrol missions as fast as possible (doesn't matter what planet).
if you were doing vanguard bounties daily since release, you would be rank 3++ by now..!

So you complete the queens bounties, you then get an item called queens wrath. You can use this to do the queen story missions (on the left hand side when the daily/weekly are etc), which is a level 24 epic random story mission, with random modifiers (like angry, arc damage+ etc) which you won't know till you start.

Complete these and you get a legendary item from the queens set! I did two and got a legendary helm and chest piece. Seems to be guaranteed legendaries, so that might be 6 today? 1 for each bounty. Needs more testing but it seems like that's the case!

how do you do it so quickly?

spamming lvl 24 strikes, ignoring all the trash mobs and going straight for the boss.
also daily mission / weekly heroic strike etc.
I think someone said public events give you some marks too or something? Not sure on that myself tho.

PvP - there is no shortcut XD Gotta grind it out. Guess it doesn't help that I primarily play the 6v6 modes, where games take longer. Maybe it's time to try out the 6 player modes..!

Thanks for the replies guys. I am still a little confused however. How can a higher level player not do more damage than a lower? When my level 4 ventured into the area with lvl 9 mobs, they took ages to kill as I was hardly doing any damage and they 'one shotted' me.

Sorry for being dense on this, but I am used to playing MMORPGs like WoW where the levels appear to work differently.

A lvl 4 player does massively reduced dmg to a lvl 5 mob (something like 33%?).
Don't bother trying to fight stuff more than 1 level above you.
If you stick to the story missions, you should never be fighting mobs a higher level than you.

A high level player does not deal more dmg vs low lvl mobs for balancing purposes. A lvl 1 fallen will still take multiple body hits from an auto rifle to kill, even if you are lvl 20+ yourself :D
(I personally hate this mechanic, because your character never feels like they are actually getting stronger, but meh what can ye do).

Really? That's interesting. Might have to give those a go but was put off by the very hard note on them!
