Titan cancelled

Interestingly they also said they are not interested in doing any more MMOs at the moment so WoW stays a one off for them. I suspect they held onto Titan to milk the WoW subs for too long and found themselves over taken by the likes of Star Citizen and to a lesser degree Elite.

This is why I have given up on gaming in the last 2-3 years.

There is just nothing positive that this news brings. No innovation. Games that are joyless. Short-termism to generate oodles of cash. I give up.

The problem is you, not the games.

There's plenty of awesome games out there, more than one can play.

Suspected this would happen... I would have thought Titan could have co-existed along-side WoW if it took the no-monthly-fee, micro-transaction route. They must have just failed to create an innovative game however and saw Hero's of the Storm and Hearthstone (basically well polished shovel-ware) as being a more lucrative route in the short and long-term.

Not massively surprising, although slightly disappointing. If Titan failed it would pretty much destroy Blizzard's reputation.

WoW is always going to be the benchmark standard for any MMO going forward. Yes I know it wasn't the first MMO ever, but it's definitely the most successful and popular in our part of the world. With so many adventurous and ambitious MMO's trying and failing to topple WoW, Blizzard must have realised they'd suffer the same fate?

Bloody joke. I am actually pretty mad about this, been a Blizzard fan for 15+ years.

The only thing that will make me forgive them is if they announce a Warcraft 4.

How exactly can you be mad about a company cancelling a game that had zero confirmed information released about it other than the fact it existed?

They need to hurry up with Legacy of the Void and then go for a Warcraft 4 that isn't screwed up by what has happened in WoW.

Well, if even in a decline their current mmorpg is top of the pile, makes sense they would not want to make a game just to compete against their own product

Theres every likelyhood they may have decided an approach via MOBA/card games is a better path too

I'd sooner see a warcraft 4, but thats unlikely to happen while we have an active sc franchise (again competing with themselves)

I suspect the next game they announce would probably be a d3 expansion

Wise decision the mmorpg world is a different place these days. All they need is too truly overhaul WOW's graphics and make the combat dynamic and they'll have a cash cow for another decade.

Next up in release cycle will be the final part of the sc2 trilogy. Then after that maybe a further d3 expansion would be possible in say 18-24 months.

I'm not annoyed with them cancelling Titan, we knew nothing about it and if they just couldn't find the fun (that's what they were quoted as saying) then how would any of us enjoy it?

People often forget that WoW was 10 years in the making, nearly drove Blizzard to bankruptcy and was exceptionally lucky to have the success it has had. It was a release of the right game at the right time.

It isn't for everyone and hate or love it, it has survived because it has evolved over the last 10 years (yes it's the 10 year anniversary this year), the online gaming market has changed so much from the days when it was solely for the hardcore dedicated bunch that played DAoC and EQ and the originals.

Online games are far more socially acceptable and for the casual player. The next big thing if it ever comes around will take a look at what has been learned over the last 20 years and look at how the market might change over the next 20 years and ride that wave.

Personally don't think pay to win (F2P with Microtransactions) is the way forward, but hey it makes a quick buck so many will jump on the bandwagon.

Could even be relative to consumer confidence being so-so
The gaming industry isn't beyond a crash simular to the 80's bust

Certainly not with the antics of some of the larger companies

Hype?

Never experienced that?

*Shrug*

To me hype requires some information about the product. Titan had nothing confirmed except that it was to be an MMO of some sort. Not really enough to generate enough hype to get mad over the cancellation of it.
