BF4 performance with xfire 7950s

Hi there,
Just got a new AOC monitor @ 2560x1440 and bought another windforce 7950 to improve my BF4 performance. However it seems to have made things worse...

Setup:
2600K not oc'd (at the moment)
850W psu
2 x 7950s
16Gb RAM
SSD with BF4 installed

When playing BF4 with xfire enabled I get fps drops every few seconds- down to 20 fps which effectively ruins the game. If I turn xfire off I get much lower fps generally but I don't get these drops.

It happens no matter how many people are in the map and no matter what graphics settings I have enabled (ie high low ultra etc). Also it doesn't seem to matter which map I am on.

I don't think it can be a processor bottleneck as although my fps are about 30 with just one 7950 the game is loads smoother. I've tried the 32 and 64 bit versions of BF4 and mantle/directx to no effect.

Any ideas or should I give up and just buy a R9 290?

If you have the Internet speed download CTE this will fix multi GPUs performance in bf4.
Or wait for the patch should be this month. When the last Dlc patch dropped performance has been rubbish again with crossfire, cte is fine though.

Hello liscoe,

Sorry to hear of the issue you're having.

Are you using Mantle or DirectX 11 in Battlefield 4?

Please see my previous quote below.

There is a system memory leak present in Battlefield 4 when using Mantle. Dice are aware and are working on a fix. I'm hoping it will be available when the next big patch is due, which should be sometime this month. If people are having this issue (where Mantle performance degrades the longer you play) i recommend using DirectX11 for now, which is unaffected by this issue. A handy way to check if you're suffering from the memory leak is to press ctrl + alt + delete and check how much system memory Battlefield 4 is using. It should be around 3-4gb maximum. As you can see from my screenshot below when i reported the bug, i was using a lot more than that which was causing fps drops as more memory was being used.

I recommend using DirectX 11 until the game is patched. The patch is expected to be arriving towards the end of the month.

Thanks for the (incredibly!) speedy reply chaps.

I'll get CTE then or just wait for the patch, glad to know that it's most likely not my pc but a bf/xfire issue. I think I've noticed performance degradation using mantle but directx still isn't amazing really considering the scaling that should occur with dual gpus.

Lets hope the patch will improve things- especially as I've rebuilt my pc basically just to play bf4 and it's worse than it was before!!

Just to rule out a GPU issue. Maybe try running another game or bench test. But I can safly say BF4 isn't working has it should in the stable build.

Don't really play any other games that would test my xfire setup- not sure Crusader Kings II would work:-) I've not noticed any problems in anything apart from BF so don't think it's my xfire. Might run a benchmark just to be sure.
