Oh I'm sorry I was under the impression we were in 2014 now, and also that the 780 came 4 months after Titan with less shaders, crippled compute and less memory. One being aimed at graphics peofessinals and gamers, one at purely te latter. I'm not sure if you're aware how much Quadro cards retail for?

It's a bit late for schooling really. Have to be up at 5

Nvidia cripple compute performance on their cards unless you pay them a ton of money not to... yeah thats a pretty good argument to put forward :D

Oh and BTW, the 780 came in 6GB variant, i'm still waiting to be convinced that the Titan was worth £400 more than the 780.

I hope AMD launch a GTX 980 for £230 and GTX 980TI for £300 in the next 6 months.

a race to rock bottom prices, thats what i want to see.

AMD releasing a GTX card? I think that'll do more than drop prices it'll cause earthquakes with the forum fanboys ;) :D

I'm sorry but that's not something I can give you unless you had the faculty to buy one at the time.

Tommy, what's the matter?

You do? :p

Tommy why don't you RTM if you're that bothered instead of cluttering the thread with your whinging.

When you consider the length of time the Titan has been out and the fact you always pay extra for early adoption of newer tech it doesn't look that bad a deal tbh.

On that basis alone I almost wish I'd bought a Titan, but I didn't really need the performance and done quite well in the end with this 780.

Titan released at £827.99
780 released at £549.99

That's £278 difference

 i never realised the 780 was £550, like lol.... still, £280 pay to not cripple it in the first place/

Oh i see, conjecture... is it not having an artificially crippled card that maybe made it feel like a proper card?

Hate to break it to you but a card that came out almost 2 years ago, and its still quicker than the one you're using right now.

What I'm trying to say is, you're using what i was using back when receipts were made out of papyrus reeds.

You don't get to tell me what's expensive or not ;)

Because unacceptable behaviour that encourages others join in-like you have, if it's made aware, it might help discourage others in stead of increasing the practice and this place would get along better.:)

Well performance is debatable, its certainly nothing more that marginal single digit differences, whats more i paid £550 less for my card. and it was out 6 months after the Titan.

Ah yes. and it has the full fat 5 Teraflops of compute power. :D

Same can be said of the GTX 980, 10% faster than a one year old AMD card. really nvidia?

So AMD/ATI did release any cards that you could unlock to higher models in some way?
AMD haven't ever released cards where a simple BIOS flash would turn it into, say a 290X?
But you had to pay more for an actual 290X?

So are you saying that the 290X was worth the extra money over the 290?
What is it, about a 7% performance difference on average?
And 290s were £330? So unless 290Xs were £354 (rounding up) then you were paying a premium for them weren't you? A smaller premium sure, but principle is the same. Or are you gonna say there's a cut-off point that AMD are inside but Nvidia aren't?

What card are you using?
I thought you had a 290?
Titan was out in February 2013, 290 was out in November 2013. So they're 9 month apart, so it can't be a 290. Plus you have a 3rd party cooled 290 which wasn't out at launch so it was probably more like December, which is 10 months.
So what card are you running now Humbug?

*snibedy snab*

Noctua colours? Great fans but prob the worst compliment to NV colour scheme I can think of. :D

edit: real news ignored again in favour of the old Titan argument :/

I fail to see how buying a 290 may actually result in getting a 290X if your willing to run the risk of unlocking it; is a bad thing.

I don't get your reasoning, i think its rather a good thing, please explain. :D

shame mine doesn't unlock....
