AMD Radeon R9 390X Arrives In 1H 2015 – May Feature “Hydra” Liquid Cooling

I can't call the 970 a top end card when it performs the same as a 290 launched a year a go but I have said that too many times already. :)

I guess you didnt call a 290x a high end card either and wouldn't buy one as it performs similar as a titan/780 launched 6 months earlier.

With 780's etc EoL can you tell me what Nvidia call there most powerful gpu atm?

This sounds like a bloody Apple vs Google/Android phone or tablet thread, and I like how instead of remotely trying to add any new info to the thread, people are arguing over the price of mass produced consumer products assembled in identical Chinese factory cities by the same low paid workers, which will be considered outdated rubbish this time next year and lost most of its value.

Plus at least a Bugatti Veyron is exclusive and rare, but I think some of you think walking into a bar and shouting:

"I have dual XYZ graphics cards in SLI/Crossfire" is going to make all the women faint at the size of your E-PEEN or something.

Yeah,right. Not.

Hopefully AMD can pull something great out of the bag performance and price wise.
They just need to add some new features to CCC like NVIDIA have with adaptive vsync and DSR.
I just hope that they can keep heat and power usage under control.
It will be a disappointment if they have a smaller process yet still have stock cards that reach 90c and throttle like the 290x did at launch

Hopefully they are a good 20-30% ahead of nvidia and tbh i dont care about the poweruse ,, DSR yes please :)
No matter what gpu side you favour competition is good and helps us all pricewise and performance

Glad I didn't go for a 970/980 now, I'll ride it out until these new beasts release. The resell value of the 970/980 will plummet with AMD's new cards and their usual price/performance ratio.

If they are much better than my 970 then i'll consider switching, can't see them being any better in engines Nv usually excel in though like UE4. If there's only a small difference like from 970-980 then not worth it imo.

I'm good for at least 6 months. But i'll keep an eye on stuff being announced.

LOL don't most people upgrade in the winter months, and AMD going release there new cards just before spring..

I know I normally always do...

February to beat a couple of mid range cards if there is any truth in it lol.

I think the guys at wccftech are missing the point a bit as NVidia may save AMD the trouble of beating the 970/80 by launching the GM200 cards themselves.

Next rumour please.:D

I think as long as AMD get the performance and price right for their next new cards, people would be very interested in them; though anyone that got the money and would buy Nvidia only would most likely bought a Titan 2 before that.

As for Nvidia's side, I seriously doubt they would bother to hurry to release mainstream fat Maxwell to counter it, as they would most likely have a Titan 2 out before AMD's flagship card to show off the performance even if it is stuck on 28nm to tease their customer base, and when AMD's (assuming 28nm) flagship comes out as fast/slightly faster than Titan 2, some people will go "meh" still sitting back waiting for the next Nvidia mainstream flagship cards, as they would believe that the performance jump from 28nm Titan 2's to 20nm fat Maxwell for mainstream release would be huge- however the catch is that there will be not confirmation or reliable leaks on whether or not the next 90/90Ti or 90/80Ti (whatever the next mainstream fat Maxwell is called), so people who are hoping for a 20nm fat Maxwell might get a 28nm fat Maxwell shove in their faces...but still end up buying them either way.

Pretty sure for Nvidia, it would be most ideal for them to milk the 28nm 970/980/Titan 2 for as long as they possibly can, before actually release mainstream fat Maxwell, regardless of it being 20nm, or just another 28nm release.

The new series of graphics cards is supposed to be the first ever to feature TSMC’s new 20nm manufacturing technology as well as 3D stacked HBM memory.

Will be very nice if true but I expect NV have something in reserve.

I don't.

they also crippled its compute performance.
Before you ask "don't AMD do the same?". No, they don't.

What you're referring to is crippling FP64 or DP compute performance. And yes AMD has done this as well since the R9 200 series. Tahiti based cards were the last ones that didn't get touched, and iirc they actually did once AMD re-released them as the 280X and 280.

[/I]I tell you what, i will kick off at AMD if they remove the compute performance from my card, deal?

lmao go ahead then.

With the R9 290X and R9 290 AMD crippled DP compute from 1/2 to 1/8 making the original tahiti cards better in terms of DP compute than hawaii.

Worse yet, you can't even buy a $1000 card to get that 1/2 DP back, you need to pay AMD the full price of a firepro, which is around $3500 last I checked.

But yes, I will now enjoy you kicking off at AMD for removing the compute performance from your card. Please proceed.

Can one of the mods step into this thread and delete the last few pages of bickering please.

Edit!!

So since page 7 this is ALL the new info which has been added:

Page 7

According to this the R9 390X will be launched in the next six months, but the R9 380X will be released in February and be 20NM:

Second link says their APUs will get the improved tessellation engine in Tonga and the texture compression technology too. The latter could actually be significant in that area IMHO,since bandwidth limitations are very apparent for IGPs.

On the OP topic of Liquid Cooling, ASETEK might be devleoping an Nvidia AIO cooled GPU as well..

It has got so derailed that the info on page 7 which was posted yesterday was missed by Mike who deleted his post and by Boomstick who made a new thread about today.

I love this but of tripe from the article:

It is very interesting to see how the AMD Radeon R9 295X2 has acted like a trend setter for out-of-the-box water cooled solutions; for AIBs and now OEMs.

Asetek originally did these units for the GTX580 and GTX680 too, can't remember which manufacturer sold them though, the 295X2 cooler is just a budget version of the one they made for ASUS's 7990 ARES.
