Tax disc who is binning them?

Obviously I trust the dealer to have taxed the bike, as the price I paid is OTR, but as I'm somewhat paranoid, I was hoping to be able to check on the gov website when I pick it up. Unfortunately it's still down so if it's not working tomorrow, I'll be extra paranoid ridding around :D

same boat, bought a car today, seen the receipt for the tax by the dealer, but I want to be sure it is actually taxed myself!!

You raise an interesting point. What happens to OTR prices now? I'm guessing that they will all say (Exc tax). I bet dealers still charge the same price though and pocket the difference as extra margin.
Have car OTR prices dropped overnight? I'm betting that they haven't.

I thought petrol station ANPR was just linked back to a police/dvla run central database with real time information. It's in their best interest to identify crooked cars up front, so they can't fuel and drive off, etc

Surely dealers will still be taxing the vehicles they sell so why would the price change?

What are you on about? The OTR price will continue to include Road Fund License. Why wouldn't it?

For the same reason that you can't include the tax when selling privately?

Since when are brand new cars sold privately?

The dealer taxes the new car on your behalf as part of the purchasing process when buying a new car. You are not buying a pre-taxed vehicle from them. It's taxed for you as part of its new registration process.

There we go then. I didn't make the link between the registration process and the first year license.

Can't understand why it has all become such a mess.

All that changed today is you don't get a paper disc but some people seem to be in meltdown over it.

An elderly neighbour stopped me an voiced his displeasure over the removal of my disc and how it was encouraging others to do the same. He is convinced the car park will be full of untaxed abandoned cars next week. He wants proof car tax is being paid.

I sarcastically replied we should return to the disc system and whilst we are at it issue paper discs for us to wear round our necks to prove we have paid income tax, council tax and VAT for the neighbours benefit.

Think I have made an enemy. lol

Aww :(

I'm yet to meet a random ranting wierdo. I was hoping it would be an instantaneous thing. You know, like I pull the tax disk out and suddenly 27 elderly nutjobs descend on me to complain about how they are going to report me. But nothing :(.
