Mantle Comes To Sniper Elite 3!

Mantle is fail, once DX12 comes out it's game over

The results in the OP against the current DirectX are disappointing let alone DX12, going forward there's just not going to be any incentive (apart from AMD bribes) to add support for it with such minor gains.

AMD don't have to bribe developers to use what they have been asking for for years and helped create. ;)

The fact is that AMD have to beg and bother developers to use Mantle and it's still only useable on PC.

It's not low level enough compared to the API that consoles use so it's adoption rate will be low in the console world.

And then there's DirectX 12, and API that not only offers all of Mantles benefits bt is also being used on Xbox one, a machine that will sell tens of millions and will spawn hundreds of games that have a DirectX12 code path that will be ported over to PC with very little effort compared to completely recoding a DirectX game to Mantle.

The downsides of Mantle far far outweigh the benefits.

To quote the developers of the Metro games - "Mantle is nothing but a temporary API"

Yay, no shortage of lame console ports to look forward to then ...

Its not a fact its you making a blanket assertion, IMO to suit yourself.

The Xbox One is powered by AMD, thats "spawn hundreds of games that have a DirectX12 code path that will be ported over to PC with very little effort" pre-optimised for AMD. :D

Another AMD thread derailed by the same people.

Awesome.

It happened with the TressFX thread with more silly arguments and yet the Nvidia equivalent was not derailed in anyway.

AMD charts Matt?

where is the amd 970s :D.

also i mentioned on twitter earlier but i dont think the amd crew got what i meant.

to show mantle as being a better ap or choice you need to use the good games with none buggy engines.

amd seem to be using as the premier of mantle all of the worst titles.

sniper elite 3 for eh is a crash fest. main game to highlight mantle ? bf4 lol.

the real funny thing is for most people in bf for eg mantle caused as many issues as the game did.

i do want to see any graphics company move forward its good for gaming but look at what you promoting and how.

Afaik pretty much everything in mantle is under the developers control for the most part, multi card included. A good thing of the developer actually works on it, a bad thing if it go's ignored, though I suspect amd can do some things driver side to aid/improve. Matt should be able to clear this up.

Great stuff!
But Mantle needs to come quicker, 3 months after release isnt very useful...

I'm sure it'll get quicker with new games. A lot of the current games (well, engines) were probably nearly done when Mantle became available so it's had to be added.
New games that use an engine with Mantle already in or that are being written from scratch could well include Mantle at go live.

i thought amd does all the CF profiles even for mantle. also mantle api Developed by amd/DICE so surely it's down to amd?

PG Tips is correct. Mantle puts full control of almost everything in the hands of the developer. What few optimizations that can be be done at driver level by AMD will have been done. Multi gpu is firmly in the hands of the developer Rebellion and i expect them to do a sterling job with it too.

This isn't the first or second time that mantle has launched in a title with broken crossfire support. Also, new drivers to improve performance? Does that mean that we would still need a driver fix like we would a bodged direct x game, and a developer couldn't just simply sort it themselves?
