I need pads and discs all round.
Local indy wants £620 for Brembo discs, Ferrodo pads, brake fluid and wear sensors, plus 6 hrs labour.

It seems a bit steep in my eyes. Any thoughts?
Do I even need Brembos with Ferrodo Carbon pads?

euro car parts are showing front discs for a few brands non brembo at 69 and rears at 49

front pads 49
rear 49

you will be paying more for the brembo name.

6 hours to change discs an pads sounds way high .. more like half of that.

Would you want to drop down the quality of your brakes? I'd say they're rather important bits of kit to have good quality on. Presumably the S3 has been designed with that stopping power in mind.

However £620 sounds ridiculously expensive even with labour. Are there no other garages that can sort you out? Have you spoken to the owners club to see if they have a list of suggested garages?

Could you even do it yourself?

You don't have floating discs or anything like that going on? £600+ is a bit bonkers considering the parts total will be half that or less for an all round refresh and its a job I could do in about an hour or two....and i'm an idiot!

6 hours?!! I've just been quoted 1.75 hours to do the discs and pads all round on the 335. a brake fluid change is no more than 0.5 hours on top of that surely?

Six hours is a bit steep but the rear calipers on an S3 are a pain to remove and require a M14 spine bit. For a garage i'd certainly say 3 hours 'ish. I have the Pagid rear discs on mine and they are basically what Audi use anyway. The disc price can be a little steep for the fronts but it seems like prices may have come down. My rear Pagids I think were £109 for the pair.

If you have the time i'd certainly recommend you try it yourself other than standard tools all you really need is a breaker bar, M14 spline bit and strong arms unless you have a two poster lift as getting some leverage is a little difficult!

Whilst a spline bit is annoying for you or me as it's not something you tend to need, it makes zero difference to any decent garage. Sounds like they just don't really want to do it!

These prices were EXCLUDING labour.
I think I'll go elsewhere. Might as well go to an Audi dealer just to see what they're crazy quote is to compare..

If £620 was just for parts then that's even more ridiculous!! My garage quoted £502 to supply and fit Brembo discs and Zimmerman pads all round and the 335 discs aren't exactly small.

I'd just stick on whatever branded ones you can get. I put some TRW pads on my DB9, they're quite good

He was talking about prepping the discs, etc.
Maybe that was his way of saying he wasn't interested.

What's your opinion on the actual products?
OEM, Brembo or non-brand from ECP?

Maybe he has a block of steel and was machining the discs in house :p. Those prices are stupidly high. I wouldn't expect to pay anymore than £300 on a good brand OEM product for everything.

The above are very cheap!

Went to a local VAG indy I've never been before, he took one look at them and said, "only needs new pads and I'll clean the rear discs."

They're going to screw me for Textar pads but **** it, it's ~£100 total.

£120 is better than £620+labour.
And found myself a nice little VAG indy.

What a difference new rear pads makes! Don't know why, but I'm surprised. Honestly didn't think it'd make that much difference as they were on the back.
Shame it doesn't stop the understeer... ;)

Got screwed paying £76 for Textar pads but paid cash so only £35 for labour.
Loving the S3 I see :p
I'm tempted to go to Germany at the weekend just to put it back in its natural habitat for a bit, hogging the outside lane at 150mph :p
