AMD Crossfire and Mantle issues

Ok, would that be shown as the program not responding? That's what happens when try and run Star Swarm in Mantle.

Yeah, when a driver stops responding your game will freeze up and maybe audio skip, then you will get a black screen for couple secs and then back on again. If you force close the game down bottom you see error message about the stopped responding.

Reason I ask are you overclocking. Is because a not so stable overclock does give the TDR errors, Mantle pushes GPUs much more than DirectX so if you do have Overclock can you try running stock?

try underclocking the cards has sometimes factory overclocks are not stable, and it'll rule out gpu being faulty

also your cpu is overclocked which maybe unstable.

edit: does it happen when you disable crossfire in CCC?

I tested the CPU for 2 hours on both Aida64 and Prime95 and it is completely stable. Also allowed Unigine Valley to run for an hour and that too had no issues.

Yes i tried disabling Crossfire and it still does the same thing when trying to use Mantle.

tbh running Prime95 for 2 hours doesn't class it as completely stable. when i had a amd cpu overclocked it would pass Prime95 for 3hours but i would get a odd crash here or there and once set back to stock all was fine

also my first powercolor 290x pcs+ card could run Unigine Valley/Heaven for hours but when running games it crashs within either seconds or minutes..

i know it's a hassle to put everything back to stock, ect. but you need to rule out each thing

Well, i have some news. Just finished downloading Sniper Elite 3 and tried Mantle and it works perfectly, albeit making the first GFX card get VERY hot. 82C, which i hope is safe for it.

So ye i was wrong about the driver, seems Thief has a problem with my particular setup. Star Swarm is suffering from the TDR issue as noted in the 14.9 release notes.

Thanks for all that helped! Turned out it was not a problem with my setup after all that testing, but hey-ho.

Just an update: I am currently in contact with Square Enix support trying to figure out the issue, they have suggested both reinstalling the drivers which did not work, they also suggested verifying game files and disabling my AV software (Bitdefender).

Unfortunately none of those worked and they are still investigating, i have provided them with the .dmp file and log from Thief and hopefully they can figure the issue from those. I'll update again when i hear back from Square Enix again.
