AMD begins slashing the prices of its Radeon R9 290, R9 290X GPUs

By the time there any worthwhile dx12 games these cards will be old news, so it really does not matter.

everybody knows there will be new cards out by the time dx12 games are out but thats not the point because not everybody upgrades to every new gpu series. some people don't upgrade their gpu for 2-3years, hence why they get the best whats on offer now and 2 or 3 way CF/SLI

Most of the people posting will and the current cards will be having such a hard time that anyone wanting any meaningful performance will be upgrading, because if meaningful performance was not a priority they would not be buying these cards period as you can get the features for cheaper, but not the performance.

but we don't know how well or poor dx12 performs on current cards. it's just guess work hence people are thinking it'll be like previous dx's, saying it'll run poor on current cards, but there's no proof yet tbh. once theres tests been done than we can say how well or poor dx12 performs on current cards. unless you've seen something that we haven't?

From history when it comes to DX support that is a year or more into the future than the current one which current cards nearly always struggle with.

Even by the time DX12 is used in games the current cards will be struggling with advanced dx11 games.
Nearly always the first hardware implementation of a new DX is poor.

it clearly says from amd Full DirectX 12 compatibility promised for the award-winning Graphics Core Next architecture

why are u having problems understanding that

Full compatibility =/= full feature support. Nvidia claim full support of DX12 on their existing DX11 hardware as well. Yet Maxwell has brought support for DX12 features that their older hardware, and existing hardware from AMD does not have. We know that current GPU's from both camps will be able to take advantage of certain DX12 features (overhead optimisations for example) hence the press releases claiming support, but new hardware is required for certain functionality. So given that, I stand by my assertion that at similar price points the 290 is a poor buy new, given it is based around an older feature set (never mind that it is less efficient in regards to power and heat).

Obviously a certain group will never change their minds. So lets come back to this when AMD announce their full featured DX12 chip at a later date. I promise to not say I told you so. ;)

Jesus you still going on about this! I've had a good sleep since then.

Couple of obvious things:
a)You are obviously an Nvidia person.
b)Your Jibaa-Jabba has nowt to do with the actual topic of a price drop!

Please for the sake of the children, let it lie.......:D

I don't wanna pester you anymore well I do but not to pee you off but there maybe some truth in what he says , I'm not saying he's right , nor you and I do not have facts , but Microsoft has developed dx12 but also 11.3 for cards that support dx 11.2 ( gcn and keplar ) which provide most of the feature set and amd may very well include all features enabling dx 12 on there r9 series but I do think Microsoft would have gone to far to much effort just to enable an api with effectively support for only keplar.

Price drop is good news , only pushes amd to release a card sooner and clear stock . Gotta love the competition

Going into more details, DX11.3 is meant to be used by inexperienced programmers that are unable to create fully functional DX12 engines. Microsoft won’t abandon DX11 that easily as it’s an API that will be used by a lot of developers in the next couple of years (despite the release of DX12).

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/direc...ill-be-packed-with-a-number-of-dx12-features/

DX11.3 is mainly there for less experienced developers, so they can get accustomed to it, then move up to DX12.

anyway, on topic, good to see the price dropping, always a good thing tbh
