Assassin's Creed Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox

You are missing the point. No pun intended but please try to see the BIG PICTURE.

The precedent it set's IS SIGNIFICANT.

Technically we're CPU-bound. The GPUs are really powerful, obviously the graphics look pretty good, but it's the CPU [that] has to process the AI, the number of NPCs we have on screen, all these systems running in parallel."
We were quickly bottlenecked by that and it was a bit frustrating," he continued, "because we thought that this was going to be a tenfold improvement over everything AI-wise, and we realised it was going to be pretty hard. It's not the number of polygons that affect the framerate. We could be running at 100fps if it was just graphics, but because of AI, we're still limited to 30 frames per second."

What he is saying here is that the AI is limiting the FPS to 30FPS. He is not saying the AI is limiting the resolution.

What you have missed is that the CPU bottleneck is not the reason for 900p.
Below is the explanation for 900p..

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff"

OK, makes sense. You are suggesting that this is because of financial incentives from Microsoft. Isn't it usually the case that cross-platform games are coded to the lowest common denominator?

You don't happen to play COD do you Raymondo?
Wouldn't mind a firefight sometime. :D

I kick arse on COD on the PC.

I don't play it on the console....I tried but the pad don't react fast enough to my brain and it frustrates me so I don't play FPS on consoles, or try to avoid it.

No. However that's what some Dev's will do. Others will target the console with the largest user base as it's 'lead platform'.

My best guess is the difference between 900p and 1080p in this case is mostly just a line of code in the config file. Kind of like how on the PC you just select what res you want to run the game at, if it runs smooth then your good to go.
In my opinion there is no 'special graphical optimisation' required in this case as the PS4 should have enough headroom anyway.

Hilarious that this post has been repeated about 3x now. It is literally amazing how people will ignore facts and common sense in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. A dev from Ubisoft screwed up and unwittingly told the truth, and now whether MS had anything to do with it or not, they are in PR fire-fighting mode to deny and reverse his honest and candid statement. If it were any more blatant it would be advertised in The Sun in pink letters.

If I were you though AE, I'd call it day, you made your point and you can't force people to believe anything other than what they want to believe. :)

Shame, I just started playing COD on PS4 and getting used to the controller sticks. Played it a little on PC but I swear there is some cheating going on.
Quite like the level playing field with playing on consoles.

I used to play it every night, co-rent/sub 2 servers with a bunch of others. The key is to find a server that runs bots that spot cheats - like see through walls for example. But we had a good clean server and I don't remember many or any cases of cheating. There was almost always someone who run the server online so if anyone is behaving badly, or cheat, we can kick them (I have a few times) and ban their IP. We normally confirm it by looking at the game from their perspective (see exactly what they are seeing), so it is easy to find out if they are cheating. Some people are just good, they know the map, and pre-shoot as they go round the corner if it is a popular corridor for traffic, or just throw a grenade into a particular area knowing where some people camp sometimes.

I like the mouse as I can aim accurately, quick to turn 180 degrees, quick change of weapons (either through numbers on the keyboard or rolling the wheel), all in all I feel much more comfortable and flexible with a mouse/keyboard.

My online stats over about 2 years playing is I played mostly TDK, servers maxed at 16 v 16 and I generally end up in the top 3 to 5 most of the time. Each match usually timed at 20 mins.

With a pad, I am just lost, I want to turn around and shoot someone, I see them and I make the move, then I get killed. If it was on the PC the other guy would've died about 3 times by the time I fired off the first shot on the pad ! All this without auto-aim.

I only used a microsoft intellimouse v3 and a bog standard keyboard. No fancy multi-button shortcut mouse or anything.

The MS paying to knobble it seems a bit far fetched!

Probably just laziness, but it is getting boring how every new PS4 & XB1 game gets the resolutions fixated on well before the release dates.

I find it hard to believe that they are reaching CPU limits after 1 year of these machines being out. They should have thought up a better statement (or just not said anything!!!) Every generation the games get better and utilise the CPU/GPU better over time. I don't expect this gen to be any different.

I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything but yes I struggled with that a bit.
I'm only rank 7 so far but gradually the controls are beginning to feel more natural, and aiming is becoming less of an issue.

Regarding not being able to turn fast enough, I'm guessing a solution would be to turn the sensitivity up on the sticks in the game settings, then to maintain accuracy of fine movement, perhaps use some stick extensions.

Well, I still have Modern Warefare on the Xbox that i bought 5 years ago I still not played....if anything I need to get the hang of that first.

Wow Pretty lame move by Ubisoft. Now it's damaged limitation....

Saying that If it's as good or better than Blackflag I buy it.

copy and paste from eg.
UPDATE 7/10/14 11.40am: Ubisoft has told Eurogamer that Assassin's Creed Unity's final technical specifications for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are actually still to be locked down.

With around six weeks to go until the game's launch, the developer revealed in a new expanded statement that there was still room for things to change.

"Final specs for Assassin's Creed Unity aren't cemented yet," a Ubisoft spokesperson explained, "but we can say we showed Assassin's Creed Unity at 900p during our hands-on preview event last week. We're confident that gamers will be thrilled with the gorgeous graphics and how Paris is brought to life in Assassin's Creed Unity.

"The development team has been hard at work delivering the best Assassin's Creed possible on next generation consoles. Regardless of which platform you're playing on, Assassin's Creed Unity will answer what an Assassin's Creed game built from the ground up for the next generation of gaming looks like and will be the best looking Assassin's Creed game ever developed."

oh well for those who accused ms of paying for nerfing the ps4 version, maybe they are thinking about giving it back :D

on a serious note seeing how aliens runs at 30fps and exclusive drive club is locked at 30 also ill be very surprised if they can change fps or the resolution without taking a hit in the graphics quality settings

It's still likely that any upgrade will come after the reviews have been done and dusted, as with Black Flag?

I don't understand why people find Microsoft paying money to hobble the PS4 version (at least temporarily) so hard to believe, anything up to two years from now when people are looking at game reviews deciding which console to buy and see that most games have 'parity' (even if the PS4 versions of games have later been patched to be superior) then it's money well spent for Microsoft if they are winning sales and not getting a more widespread reputation of inferiority.

You only have to look at how they treat indies with ID@Xbox to see how far they will go: "you either release on Xbox One at the same time as PS4 or not at all". Welcome to the business world.

i don't find it hard to believe microft could use there huge stacks of cash to there advantage but id find it hard to believe a company would take cash and nerd there own product and risk a public outcry and risk damaging sales.

You never know unless you test the water. These big companies seem to like taking big risks that often appear idiotic. For evidence of this you need look no further than the unveiling of the xbox one.
Like allot of posters in this thread however, everyone may have been like 'who cares about those extra pixels', I'll buy it day 1 anyway.

Luckily for the integrity and health of the gaming industry, PS4's users kicked off and started cancelling pre-orders in droves.

Ubi would've gotten away with it to, is it wasn't for that pesky senior producer Vincent Pontbriand.

I don't know what's hard to understand either.
Microsofts problem is xbox one just isn't selling well no matter what tricks they pull. To give ms credit, they really are pulling out all the stops.

- People say xb1 will sell once Titanfall arrives.
Titanfall arrives and xb1 still doesn't sell.

- People say xb1 isn't selling due to kinect and price difference.
Ms remove kinect and reduce price, but xb1 still doesn't sell.

- People say xb1 isn't selling due to having inferior versions of multi-platforms.
Microsoft.. well you get the picture.
