ISIS and Islamic militants - discussion

I don't quite get why Turkey is currently standing buy doing nothing.

If Turkey marched in and saved Kobain is would be seen in good light by the Kurds who aren't fond of the Turks to begin with.

Additionally they can form a permeter and effective annex that town from Syria. It would stop the mass fleeing and reduce the number of refugees on the Turkish border too.

And to top it all off, they have the support (morale) support of the West and Iran.

Win-win

If IS does cross the border then all of NATO has to help them. They probably wouldn't need help wiping out IS as their military is only second to the US in all of NATO but that way they wouldn't need to spend a fortune and all the other countries would have to help shoulder the cost. I doubt they will cross the border though as it would be suicide.

It could be for any number of reasons as there's all sorts of theories on why they haven't acted yet but i imagine their hate for the kurds does play into it too.

the PKK are a terrorist organisation in turkey - much like the IRA was over here but not in the USA (at least for a while). the enemy of my enemy is still my enemy.

Why are they letting people who go there and fight for Isis, come back and live happily ever after..

Islam the untouchable religion. South Park was right all along. I can't believe the support Ben Affleck is getting for his stupid rebuttals of Bill Maher.

What news channel are you watching ?

Why would Turkey help PKK, YPG etc? They are terrorists who have been attacking turkey for decades, the moment they face a bit of karma they come crying to Turkey for help.

Turkey is waiting for Kobane to fall so it can go in and put YPG to one side, it cant let the Kurds become powerful as they will come and attack Turkey which they have already started.

It's a complex game of geopolitics thats being exploited by the West as usual for its own interests.

Its a lot more complex than that (not that I really know that much about it) but thats a good overview. A lot of the YPG currently in action around Kobane IIRC are not part of the groups that were conducting guerilla type operations against Turkey - though some of them are relatives or associates of those groups who are only fighting now due to IS.

From what I recall the bigger more moderate sections of the Kurds have fairly good relations with Turkey but don't have the clout to prevent the smaller more extreme groups from operating against them which causes a whole complicated mess.

^ Yes thats correct YPG arent related directly to Kurdish terrorism in Turkey, but they are heavily tied with PKK, and want autonomous region in Syria, this poses huge problems for Turkey.

Most Kurds want or uspport independence, mostly the more practicing Muslim section of the community are happy with Turkey and you will find a lot support the ruling AKP, but other Kurds hate them, thats why many got attacked yesterday in the rampages.

My guess would be *equips tin foil hat* that NATO are laying in wait for IS to attack Turkey so they can storm in full power and decimate them, in order to send a clear message to Russia that NATO's "all for one" policy is no joke.

I can't see IS going on a full front against Turkey even now (without NATO) it would be suicide - more likely they'd try to slowly make inroads destabilising further and further in if their goal was to push into Turkey.

lol IS isnt going to attack Turkey anytime soon, they know Turkey has a proper army and they will severely overstretch themselves, they are trying to consolidate all non regime held areas in Syria, taking the strategic ones first.
