What have you done to your car today?

Decided to do something about the dodgy plastic on the steering wheel (note the dark shiny bits at the bottom), but not happy with the result.

Up to this point all was good, but getting it all neat around the buttons on the top half proved impossible, but I persevered just to see how it would all look if I were to re-do it with more success.

.....

Will be reversing everything tomorrow morning. It was an enjoyable afternoon of something different at least! Don't suppose anybody wants 6 meters of matte black wrap? :p

Plastidip would be better - will just look like the rubberised coin tray etc then

I may give plastidip a go, but I'm quite confident I won't like the slightly rubberized texture it leaves behind. Have a can in the cupboard so will give it a go this morning if the weather stays put :)

The other downside of that rubberised finish is that it also collects any dead skin off your hands so needs the occasional wipe down. Mine is still holding up well 6 months later though and it a pretty good match for the original finish.

Anything has to be better than that wrapped finish you have right now though :p It's way too dark and shiny compared to the fresh new leather.

Your retrim looks really though buddy..another Jack success story!

Picked up some wheels today from Taunton. 120 round trip on some great roads, and met a fellow enthusiast who owns some lovely vehicles! :D

Went to see a mate at his work on the way back just to show them to him. "Right, let's get them on then..."

They need a clean, which I'll do tomorrow. Next job is get the original wheels painted.

Very nice

Fitted this little lot. Driving the car a couple of weeks ago and it started creaking from the front suspension - a sure fire sign that the ball joints are failing, so new lower arms needed - decided to also change the top arms and drop links just to replace everything with new.

Yes, am very pleased with the leather, looks top notch!

Plastidip was attempted today.

Although the quality of the finish is much better than my terrible wrapping efforts, this confirmed my suspicions that I wouldn't like the grippy texture of Plastidip. Had the fun of peeling it all off, and now the car is back the way it was originally. At least I'm confident in how to remove the steering wheel and assorted gubbins now :D

Need to stick .jpg on the end of those images.

You're facing the same dilemma as me, what to do about the center bit!

I can get the wheel refurbish but I'm not sure on the center, you can see in this excellent safety driving video how awesome the wheel in my car looked, 18 years ago. Alas I'm not sure if I will ever get it to look like that again and I don't want a two tone wheel :(

Bit of servicing on my 320d. Oil and oil filter change, air filter change and pollen filter change. Also put a new head unit in the other day and for whatever reason the reverse sense for my reverse camera stopped working despite changing from a Pioneer HU to another Pioneer. I managed to fix that and connected the speed pulse cable at the same time.

So all good now. Need to change brake fluid and fuel filter very soon.

It's a pain isn't it!! Lots of people do a different colour wrap on the bottom (carbon innit) but that just looks chavtastic. Will figure out something eventually.

Does it deal with the rather poor scuttle shake coming through the steering column, for me the weakness of the Mk3.5

This bracing seems to stiffen up the rear and the shell more than than the front end, it seems to have helped a little bit but I haven't done many miles yet. I am waiting for a new single piece front strut brace to come which I am hoping will make more of a difference.

More work today...

Replaced both door mirrors, why you ask, well one has always had a scratch on it, and I managed to get hold of two 'as new' gloss black mirrors very cheaply..which match my hardtop, wheels and other detailing...old red ones will get flogged on ebay so cost to change will be minimal.

Also did a bit of preventative maintenance, I sealed the screw grommets either side of the plastic scuttle cover with silicon sealant - this is a very common place for water ingress into the footwells. Took the opportunity to clean out a load of crap from in there as well, leaves and the like, and grease the wiper linkages (seemed a little noisy lately). Rubbish pic mid job...

Whilst the door cards were off to swap the mirrors I also fitted the optional OEM piano black switch inserts, the door cards always looked a bit crap compared to the dash, these add a bit more detail and look more premium. Yes they are fingerprint central :o

When i got my S2000, the car had some pretty crap finishing on the alloys when i got it. They were terrible. All the lacquer had come off after a few washes and they were pretty dire. Brake dust was sticking all over them, loads of corrosion etc.

I have had the wheels refurbed in metallic silver by Top Marques in Stoke on Trent. I must say they did an excellent job.

The center caps were also corroded and had chunks missing from them. I used some ptex snowboard repair sticks to fill the gaps, sanded them back and then primed and painted them metallic silver. Its not a perfect match for the wheels but its pretty damn close.

Grabbed some Honda emblems from eBay and put lacquer over them.

All finished this morning and its looking pretty fresh.

Refurb looks good Rich, the centre caps aren't bad either, beats paying Honda £40 or so each! Hope they last though, still cheap and easy enough to do every year or so anyway.

You need some non mangy looking lock nuts next :p

I'm gonna sack it off I reckon mate. Just get another standard bolt.

And yeah, the £45 center caps from Honda is a total joke.

Happy with the refurb as it is so I'm only planning to swap the lock but out for now.
