Do you class swearing as the norm?

Perhaps I have just been lucky.:D

A quote from our highly elite "direct entry graduates" so well educated they don't need to work their way up/apprentice with us.

"The problem is we need a solution"

there's a reason the DEGs get treated worse than interns lol. Most get politely asked to leave after their first year too.

They've set up thier own degree program now for engineers as they were finding the ones coming from uni with no experience where just so useless it took just as long to train them into a work mentality than to take a bunch of school leavers and put them through a combined degree and apprenticeship

That does sound terrible. I used to work in academia and most of my time was spent with philosophers, surgeons and scientists. Strictly speaking, I have no experience of engineers and I dare say that most of the time the people I was involved were always on their best behaviour. Regarding swearing, situational appropriateness is the term that comes to mind.

There seems to be a thing with a lot of the younger people through higher education where they just seem fixed completely in an "education" mind set. Only seem able to think of ideal but unworkable solutions as if answering a test question. It's hard to describe but they always seem to be thinking along the lines of " you get taught about x or y and how to solve x and y then you get tested on your ability to identify and solve x and y based problems". And are always Trying to force the problem to fit what they already know rather than understanding they might have to go out of their way and learn about a b and c if x and y don't work lol.

They're too used to the solution being taught before the problem rather than having to work our what they need to learn to solve a new problem

You used to tell us off on mumble ^_^

Also interestingly I habitually say sorry whenever I blaspheme now thanks to you.

People think I'm strange now :(

I did ask you guys not to blaspheme, and I appreciated that you tried not to. :)

Rude, disrespectful, no manners, no courtesy, no tact? If you let people do what they want. They will do just that. This country has no standards whatsoever. Anything goes.

A quote on youth:

Socrates said:
Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.

Moaning about the "youth of today" is a long, long tradition...

With my friends, nearly every other word out of our mouths is a swear.

However, we're mature enough to know when it's not appropriate, like in public, around our's and each other's families and kids etc.

I work in a school and am obviously mindful not to when kids are in the vicinity, but otherwise I'll say what I want. Toned down on the c word though.

Anyone below 30 it is the way nowadays. I HATE it as I find it disrespectful.

That's the way the countries going and it isn't immigrants or anything... it's the way people have been raised wrong.

I have visited other countries far and near and the culture is SO much better!

I want Britain to be Great again... :'(

Maybe I'm old fashioned.... and I'm only 33 so I'm stuffed...

CRAP IS A SWEARWORD FFS

As others have mentioned about Stephen Fry, swearing does not mean that you are not intelligent.

Swearing is a part of all languages, it's an extreme that I think is needed to express certain things.

The problem is when people start to use swearing in general conversation and in front of kids.

I rarely swear, was brought up never swearing in the house or in public and i still stick to it. Only person i really swear in front of is my best mate and maybe when i'm in my car singing along with music lol. Sometime funny shocking my finacee by swearing in front of her and she swears loads usually FML (which makes me thing of Football Manager Live)

I find people who don't swear slightly odd, to be honest. Particularly people who are shocked by swearing.

I don't swear a lot, but it's excellent punctuation. I don't like it when people swear massively excessively, or in front of young children.

Swearing is just part of life.

Rarely, mainly because lots of my friends now have kids. So I've cut down, don't want another generation of skanky ass sweary kids.

I've never met anyone who doesnt swear outside of a professional capacity.... Yes it is the norm and anyone who says it isnt is probably some nazi who likes to think they can go around telling everyone what words they can/cant use... and I avoid those people like the plague anyway because they will inevitibly end up trying to infringe upon my personal freedom of saying......WHAT THE HELL I LIKE.

I think it is unfair to tell people what they can or cannot say, as well as it being daft that people take offence by proxy - however, it is entirely fair for people to react to what is said if they are not comfortable/happy with what you are saying.

Of course swearing does slip out sometimes, and it does have its place, but it does sadden me when all you can hear in every other word is ****** and blinding, it just seems so unnecessary.
