Most people I know through "higher education" are, to put it politely, ****ing idiots.
Perhaps I have just been lucky.

That does sound terrible. I used to work in academia and most of my time was spent with philosophers, surgeons and scientists. Strictly speaking, I have no experience of engineers and I dare say that most of the time the people I was involved were always on their best behaviour. Regarding swearing, situational appropriateness is the term that comes to mind.
You used to tell us off on mumble ^_^
Also interestingly I habitually say sorry whenever I blaspheme now thanks to you.
People think I'm strange now![]()
Rude, disrespectful, no manners, no courtesy, no tact? If you let people do what they want. They will do just that. This country has no standards whatsoever. Anything goes.
Socrates said:Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.
Anyone below 30 it is the way nowadays. I HATE it as I find it disrespectful.
That's the way the countries going and it isn't immigrants or anything... it's the way people have been raised wrong.
I have visited other countries far and near and the culture is SO much better!
I want Britain to be Great again... :'(
Maybe I'm old fashioned.... and I'm only 33 so I'm stuffed...
Sadly yes it is normal for many but I don't mind so long they don't do it in public, especially around children.
I've never met anyone who doesnt swear outside of a professional capacity.... Yes it is the norm and anyone who says it isnt is probably some nazi who likes to think they can go around telling everyone what words they can/cant use... and I avoid those people like the plague anyway because they will inevitibly end up trying to infringe upon my personal freedom of saying......WHAT THE HELL I LIKE.
