Nexus 6 Rumours and Speculation

then how might you describe the on paper specifications of the cameras in the two devices?

What? Surely that's down to you who claims to know the Note 4 has a better specced camera?

I never claimed to know anything about either camera other then that megapixels has nothing to do with which one is better specced. It is you that claims to have the knowledge.

There is absolutely no evidence that the Note 4 camera specs are better then the Nexus 6 camera specs. None at all.

In terms of megapixels the note 4 has "higher specs" 16 vs 13.

However that number alone is not an indicator of the performance. There are other factors that are involved that go towards producing better pictures. That's why a "proper" camera with less megapixels can produce better pictures than a phone with higher megapixels, The lens has a massive part to play for one.

An analogy that I think works is horsepower. You can take 2 vehicles, one with 300bhp and another with 200bhp, yes one vehicle has more horsepower but that number alone is not enough to gauge say 0-60 performance.

A lotus elise with 200bhp for example is going to be faster 0-60 than a range rover with 300bhp.

In terms of mega-pixels yes the Note 4 has better specs. The problem is that megapixels isn't a measurement to guage the specs or quality of a camera, which is what we are debating.

i claim the note 4 has the higher mp count, therfore its better spec'ed

i quite agree. ive said this repeatedly but then someone took it personally that i had suggested the n6 was potentially not perfect.

We were talking about the camera specs specifically. There is absolutely no evidence that the Note 4 camera specs are better then the Nexus 6 camera specs. None at all.

My analogy was a good one, because in it there is no evidence at all that the 24GB PC is better specced then the 16GB.

I thought the cameras were different in other respects than merely mp.

I know that which is why I wrote

I'm certainly not in the "more megapxiels equal better pictures camp". There's more than enough evidence to show that megapixels on their own are nowhere near an indication of picture quality.

It's the same principle with screen resolution, people are getting caught up with 4k lcd tvs. The resolution alone doesn't equal a better picture, I'd rather stick with a kuro than a 4k lcd with led edge backlighting. There's more to picture quality on a tv than resolution, in the same way that there's more to camera quality than megapixels.

oh really, then find me a post where i said the note has better image producing abilities?

i said it had better specs, thats all and that traditionally nexus phones have had crap image quality so my bets wernt of the n6 being the better of the two.

good example on this camera point is the nexus 5 camera is better than the higher specced galaxy s4 camera in most situations

and both are probably only as good as something like the iphone 4 or 4s camera !

Megapixels are basically meaningless. When you blow an image up to a large size, a higher megapixel camera will produce a larger image.

The sensor is much more important, as are the optics, in addition to the software processing. There's more too: the phone display will affect the image you see too.

You cannot say the N6 has a worse camera than the Note 4 because you have not compared images from both.

Very little is know about the Nexus camera at the moment, other then it is 13mp and has OIS. Making it pretty impossible to guage if it is any good.

yes.

see the thread title. its not what factually accurate, in-depth assessed, independently verified information on the nexus 6.

As AlecR says sensor size and optics are two of the most important factors, but perhaps more importantly software too will have a big impact.

This is where I think the Nexus may excel as it will the first camera to fully utilise the new Android camera API's giving the camera hardware itself much better interaction with Android and bringing along a lot of new toys too.

Nobody has really seen the impact the new API will have on camera quality yet because the Nexus 5 L previews still use the old camera API.

You can read more about the new Android camera API here.

Yes and it's completely fine to call someone out on baseless speculation in a speculation thread. I called you out and you got bitter. The end.

no.

you said i said something i did not.

you threw fit because i said the note had better specs, you claimed it didnt. it does.

There is a lot more to phone cameras than just MP, pixel size etc. The processing/software is just as important, if not more important. So many phones with great camera hardware end up being crap purely because of crappy software/processing.

The nexus 5 with HDR+ is fantastic imo but without HDR+, the photos looks pretty crap, some of my photos:

Remove the "h" before ".jpg" for a larger version.

HDR+ VS no HDR+:

All of these photos were taken with an older version of android + the old camera app so camera has improved a bit further since then.

The main thing, which I love about the N5 camera is that it literally is just point and shoot, you don't need to mess around with touch to focus, exposure settings etc. like you do with other phones i.e. HTC one M7/m8, 99% of my photos have always come out great, not blurry at all even in low light conditions and when capturing relatively fast moving objects.

@CJ84

I am 90% certain that the 60FPS thing has been around since jellybean.

EDIT:

And there are even better photos in this thread:

You said the Note 4 has a better specced camera based on it having 16mp vs 13mp which is complete rubbish.

The Note 4 has a better specced megapixel count which bears no indication on whether it has a better specced camera... sigh can we stop going round in circles please.
