*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

Guys I have absolutely no idea what is going on in destiny or what I am suppose to do :( I need some guidance.

I played about an hour on release day since then just not had the time so I thought i'd fire it up today again, and am completely lost.

I'm level 4 I think, and just in a ship going to different spots on Earth. There are other players on these maps but they are all doing there own thing and when I follow the objective just get whooped on my own!

You're probably doing patrol missions, sometimes they can take you to areas where you will be underlevelled. Return to the lobby and do a campaign mission for your level instead, they will level you up faster(they're represented by stars on the map). You will also get an experience bonus for completing them the first time.

If you don't see any uncompleted campaign missions, try heading back to the tower and handing in some mission items, hopefully that will unlock the next mission. Other than doing the campaign missions, try to complete the bounties that are available to you, these will grant 2500/5000 bonus xp and usually aren't hard to complete.

Cheers, It was a patrol when I moused over the icon.

Just done a story icon and was easier, even when in story mode there were other players on the map. Do I ignore these guys and just follow my objective? Are you suppose to explore or just goto where your suppose to be going?

Your can ignore them if you want, the maps open up to mutiple areas so you will see people doing patrols or en route to missions.

Exploring caves, buildings etc will allow you to find chests.

Just play through the story dude. This will get you to Level 20, after which u can start to think about (and will understand) what all them others are doing lol.

Oh and grab any spinmetal/iron/collectables along the way they will come in handy later

What level are you? If you're around 25-26 you could try to tag along with 2 level 29 players and let them do the majority of the work. Just stay safe and do what damage you can.

Update from yesterday... I levelled my level 7 warlock up to level 19 today by playing the entire campaign plus a bunch of bounties. It took 11 hours in a single sitting. Then one of my fellow level 27 friends carried me through the level 22 weekly strike, so that I could obtain the three coins I needed. I owe that guy a big favour. Transferred the coins across to my level 27 hunter, and finally purchased that hunter helmet from Xur.

That helmet gives golden gun a fourth shot which is so hilariously broken and overpowered I just had to have it. Well now I have it, but at a heavy price. The price is I don't know when I'll be able to summon up the willpower to play Destiny again. I was pretty fed up after 11 hours of play.

Think i am kind of done with it now. I think its the sort of game that requires you to have a group of friends playing it regularly with you to keep it interesting. Just randomly logging on and grinding strikes/missions/crucible solo has gotten really boring :/

Agreed. I don't think I would still be playing if I didn't have a couple of friends I regularly play with.

Been messing around with The Last Word in the Crucible since the auto rifle nerf and racked up enough tokens to buy a Vanquisher auto rifle from New Monarchy. With nothing else I wanted, I gave it a go and to be honest it still feels exactly the same as pre-nerf? I've noticed that those with Suros Regime still hold their own too.

Not a criticism but an observation. Still, it's much more enjoyable to run around blowing people away with The Last Word. :)

On a side note, Gjallahorn is the nuts!

That bit about the 3 furthest back getting teleported can't be right. I mean come on. Coding it to teleport 3 people randomly is easier than picking the three at the back so they did that on purpose. There is literally no sane reason for making it work like that unless it was to allow people to split into teams.

It really is. Read the interview with the lead designer of VOG on Kotaku

Q: you think that'd be a good reason for people to replay the raid? That it's going to be harder, so they can't use the tricks they used to use?

A:I think that some of it is just making sure that… there's this one way for us to talk about this where it feels like we're making something harder, but in the case of making fixes to the raid, they have the side effect of making the encounter harder, but they also make the encounter meet the stated goal for a given encounter.

So to talk loosely about the final encounter for the raid, in the encounter, our goal was to have an encounter where each player in your raid needed to be able to do each job from the entire raid. So, to allow players to have some freedom over choosing or selecting who's going to do what job, while that's strategically interesting, and it's led to a bunch of really cool strategies, it actually doesn't align with the goal for the encounter. So that is an example of a case where we would make a change.

Q: Okay, so you're talking about the fact that three people can get farther away from Atheon and always get teleported.

A: Yeah.

Bungie have noticed this and the Suros Regime is getting another nerf

Apparently instead of firing bullets it will now fire blu tack. Seriously why is it that if something is decent it gets nerfed? I was going to get the expansion packs for this game but I'm not so sure now.

but the crucible must be balanced ! everything else in there is balanced, its just all those people using the suros that need to be stopped because its too overpowered

Bungies obsession with stopping people flocking to one gun is going to ruin the game. The community will choose the path to least resistance. Thats why we had thousands of us all sat shooting inside a cave to get some decent loot. The community will work out what the next most overpowered gun is, it will be called the "new mythoclast" and everybody will start using that instead.

Chances are, it will be an auto rifle. Scrubs like auto rifles because they are easy to use, you don't need to good with your aim, and its very forgiving. The only way to stop the situation where everybody uses auto rifles in the crucible is to make it so that they are so poor nobody bothers. In the weekly update bungie thinks that if everything is equal, everybody will choose something different and nobody will flock to one gun or type. So they are going to keep nerfing peoples guns until this happens. But what they haven't factored on, is that is the age of youtube, where every minute somebody somewhere is creating a video to try and get hits and get paid some money. And what better way to get hits ? to tell everybody that you've found the gun that can make you good at PVP. Once the loot cave became popular, every man and his dog had a video showing you it. It wasn't just one video, there were thousands, and websites like IGN were desperate to make news stories about it and spread it to even more people.

This is guaranteed to happen with the weapons. Its a pointless quest and they just need to accept that auto rifles will be most peoples choice in the crucible because they are easier to use, especially the suros with its low rate of fire and low recoil, making it easier to use. They need to up the skill ceiling on it by increasing the recoil, but then increasing the fire rate and damage to match. If you are good with your aim, you can still make it work, but those who can't aim won't be able to use it.

Guarantee however they will just make it do less damage and pointless for everybody.
